Pallomancy

This ancient art of divination relies on pendulums to foretell the future. The word is derived from the Greek words pallein, meeting to sway, and manteia, meaning prophecy. A pendulum consists of an item suspended from a thread. Through history, people have used rings, plumb bobs, crystals, and other items. As the diviner held a string, the pendulum was free to move. Pallomancers would first determine the question they wanted to ask, and specifying which direction means what. For example, if the pendulum swings left to right, the answer is yes; if it swings up and down, the answer is no. It is important to only ask yes or no questions. To make your own pendulum, choose a lightweight bob (less than one ounce). The string should be six to 12 inches long. If you prefer, a necklace with a single charm or crystal is also effective.
