Tropical Cyclone Debbie is expected to intensify and impact the Queensland coast of Australia early next week as the equivalent of a major hurricane. Debbie formed east of Queensland on Friday evening (Eastern time) and is currently moving slowly southwestward.

Debbie is the equivalent of a Category 1 as of early Saturday morning and atmospheric and oceanic conditions should remain very favorable for continued strengthening through this weekend.

A destructive Cyclone is about to reek havoc on coastal AND inland Queensland, Australia, near Ayr. This storm will bring devastating winds of over 200km/h, inland flooding, storm surge , structural damage, loss of power and infrastructure will be compromised. I have personally been in a CAT4 Hurricane and they are VERY powerful forces of nature…one to be respected, ESPECIALLY if you and your family are on or even near the coast. *Catastrophic damage will occur*

Category 4 Cyclones tend to produce more extensive curtainwall failures, with some complete structural failure on small residences. Heavy, irreparable damage and near complete destruction of gas station canopies and other wide span overhang type structures are common. Mobile and manufactured homes are often flattened. Most trees, except for the heartiest, are uprooted or snapped, isolating many areas. These storms cause extensive beach erosion, while terrain may be flooded far inland. Total and long-lived electrical and water losses are to be expected, possibly for many weeks.  (Prayers for the people and creatures in front of this storm)

Tropical Cyclone Debbie To Intensify And Landfall In Queensland, Australia

Rapid intensification is possible due to the favorable conditions, including low vertical wind shear and warm sea surface temperatures. Current indications are that peak intensity will be reached just prior to landfall, which is expected Monday Eastern time, or Tuesday morning Australian time.
