Trump and the Presidency

Dear Fellow American,

In the first 60 days, Donald Trump’s presidency has proven to be one of the most unorthodox administrations in the modern era. He promised that he would buck traditional lines of communication, crony political appointments, and the Washington status quo—and so far he is making good on that promise. By voting for Trump, an overwhelming number of Americans rejected business as usual.

But what is “business as usual” for the President of the United States? What did the founders intend when they designed the office?

We have a front row seat to one of the most interesting presidencies in our nation’s history. But we must also understand the proper, good, and lawful role of the President according to the Constitution. The Executive Branch was designed to be powerful, but with important—constitutional—constraints.
