This Woman’s Head Got Stuck in the Subway… And People Passed By Without a Care
You hear about it all the time, and you assume, naturally, that it would never be you.
But people now casually walk past others on the street who are blatantly hurt, trapped, in need – or even dead – without even batting an eye, much less tying to help.
Luckily, this woman ended up getting out without any physical harm – but the bad news, is that it seems dozens of people who saw her stuck in the subway did nothing.
It was as if they were zombies, or as if they had all empathy drained from them.
via NY Post:
A disturbing online video shows a straphanger wedged between subway doors from the neck up as passersby casually walk past her on the platform.
Apparently realizing too late that the train was at its last stop and had already emptied out, the woman rushed for the doors and became trapped, sources said.
Sounds like everyone’s worst nightmare.
Check this out:
NY Daily News explained the bizarre situation (and clued us in to the fact that the woman was, in the end, OK):
An MTA [Metro Transit Authority] worker can be seen strolling past the trapped woman in the clip, but the agency said that the employee had already spoken to the woman and told her that workers would have the doors open soon.
“While this is an unfortunate incident, the passenger was able to get out safely with assistance from our train operator,” said MTA spokeswoman Beth DeFalco. “Because the doors were ajar, the train was never in danger of moving.”
Well, that’s what they said, but it still looked a lot like this poor woman was trapped with all witnesses too glued to their phones, or too indifferent about life to care about her precarious situation.
Creepy.
It’s at that point that you have to realize who you should NOT count on in an emergency – basically anyone from the general public.
On the other hand, maybe there are still a few good samaritans out there… somewhere.
