Jesus instructed His followers how to pray correctly.

You have misunderstood what it says in The Gospel of John. He said that Father was IN Him and He was in The Father.
He further prayed to Father (on many occasions and in John He prayed) that His disciples may be ONE as well, just like He and Father are ONE.

This shows what it means, wherever it says in the Gospels that they worshipped Him (Christ). It means honouring Him even as honouring The Father, because The Father sent Him. To honour Him, therefore means also to obey Him too and that includes His Instructions on all things, including on how to pray correctly.
