Putin offers Comey asylum. Could he be serious? 

Russian president’s yearly question-and-answer event included comments on the former FBI director and a phone call from Arizona about ‘Russophobia’

Vladimir Putin made a sarcastic offer of asylum to the former FBI director James Comey on Thursday, during an attack on Comey’s claims of Russian interference in the US election.

“It sounds very strange when the head of the security services writes down a conversation with the commander-in-chief and then leaks it to the media through his friend … How, in that case, does he differ from [Edward] Snowden?” the Russian president asked, referring to the NSA whistleblower who has been given political asylum in Russia.

“That means he is not the leader of the security services, but a human rights defender. And if he faces pressure, then we are happy to offer him political asylum, too,” said Putin.

Speaking during a marathon phone-in session with the Russian people, Putin said he had not followed Comey’s testimony to the Senate intelligence committee last week but knew some of the details. “The former FBI director said there was Russian interference in the US election process but again gave no evidence,” said Putin.

US intelligence agencies believe Russian hackers attacked the Democratic party’s servers with the aim of helping Donald Trump get elected.

Putin accused the US of interfering in countries across the world by financing NGOs, and said many world leaders had complained about this to him but were scared of saying it publicly for fear of angering Washington.

“As for us, we have our opinion, we say it openly, but it’s not some kind of underground sabotage activity.”

Putin said it was important to find dialogue with the US to help solve global issues such as fighting poverty and radicalism, and said he was “ready for constructive dialogue” with Trump.

Putin is due to meet Trump for the first time on the sidelines of the G20 summit in early July, but Moscow’s hopes of a new start to relations under the new president have been overshadowed by the allegations of Russian interference in the election and potential collusion with elements of the Trump campaign.

The phone-in also included a video address from an American man in Arizona, who said he was a friend of Russia and asked Putin for advice on how to fight the “racist Russophobia” he said had taken hold in the US.

“I don’t think I have the right to give you any advice, but I want to thank you for your position, and we know that we have a lot of friends in the United States,” said Putin.

Putin Is Getting What He Wants from America

Ever since President Donald Trump defeated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, Democrats have been accusing Trump of somehow colluding with the Russian government to rig the election in his favor.

These theories have so far proven to be completely baseless. However, it appears that by spouting all these ridiculous claims, Democrats such as Clinton and Rep. Maxine Waters, R-Calif., are playing right into Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hand.

Writing for The Wall Street Journal, David Satter explained that Putin’s ultimate goal wasn’t to rig the election for Trump — it was to turn Americans against each other and get us so wrapped up in pursuing conspiracy theories that Russia would have free reign.

Anf the worst part? That’s exactly what seems to be happening.

Clinton is doing precisely what Russian President Vladimir Putin wants — sowing chaos throughout the country and causing severe divisions to open up along party lines — and the resulting paralysis in our nation is more than he could have asked for.

And where is Waters? She is helping Clinton along by continuously calling for Trump’s impeachment over these baseless accusations.Democrats have been so fixated on proving something that cannot be proven, that…they have missed the entire reason Russia was interested in meddling with an American election in the first place.

Russia has been working constantly to increase its global presence. President Barack Obama certainly helped them achieve that goal by making it clear the United States wouldn’t lift a finger to stop them.

Clinton aided them in that goal as well by pursuing a “reset” with the Russians — something her fellow Democrats conveniently forgot during the 2016 campaign.“But Mrs. Clinton, as secretary of state, showed no grasp of Russian realities. She launched the ‘reset’ policy after the murders of Alexander Litvinenko, a former Russian intelligence agent who had been granted asylum in Britain, and Anna Politkovskaya, Russia’s leading investigative journalist. In both cases, the regime of Vladimir Putin was directly implicated,” Satter wrote.

Satter also noted that it was actually the Russians who likely went after Trump.

“The ‘Trump dossier,’ full of unverified sexual and political allegations, was published in January by BuzzFeed, despite having all the hallmarks of Russian spy agency ‘creativity,’” Satter explained.The longer Democrats and the liberal media focus on this witch hunt against the president, the more Putin will realize his strategy was successful — and the more he will be tempted to use it again.

During Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ Senate Hearing on Tuesday, Republican Arkansas Rep. Tom Cotton exposed the absurdity of the conspiracy theories being hurled at the Trump administration.

“Have you ever … heard of a plot line so ridiculous that a sitting United States senator and an ambassador of a foreign government colluded at an open setting with hundreds of people to pull off the greatest caper in the history of espionage?” Cotton asked, mocking the Democrats’ accusations.
