Trump-hating media unable to influence voters

Arizona senate hopefuls should pay attention to Alabama

If the mainstream media was all you depended on for news about Donald Trump, you’d be of the opinion that the President of the United States was an incompetent bumbler, who mistakenly stumbled into the Oval Office and can’t find the exit.

The liberal hatred for the man who swept to victory on Nov. 7, 2016, is visceral and unrelenting. But those who count — Americans of every stripe who put him comfortably across the finish line — remain firmly in his camp, which galls the Barack Obama, Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton worshipers and their like-thinking media gaggle. Ultimately even the unabashedly left-wing Washington Post was forced to admit, “Donald Trump just blew up the electoral map.”

The latest confirmation of President Trump’s influence is evident in the contentious special election senate race in Alabama, where Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Luther Strange and former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore have advanced to a runoff election in Alabama’s Republican Sept. 26 primary. The seat was previously held by former Sen. Jeff Sessions who joined the Trump administration as U.S. Attorney General. Strange was appointed to fill the senate vacancy in February by former Gov. Robert Bentley. If you think Arizona politics is convoluted, try this on for size: Strange, then Alabama’s Attorney General was investigating Bentley for allegedly using state money to cover up a sex scandal. Bentley resigned the governorship in April.

“I predict President Trump’s endorsement will be incredibly important because people want his agenda passed,” Strange said after the polls opened. “I want his agenda passed. He has given me his endorsement and full support. I think that will make a difference today.”

In a strange alignment backing Strange, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is also supporting the senator. The Senate Leadership Fund, a major PAC with ties to McConnell, has pledged to spend up to $8 million to get Strange across the finish line. Politico reports the PAC, which has spent $3.5 million on the race as of late July, focused its attacks on U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks for comments he made criticizing Trump during the 2016 presidential primaries. An early Ted Cruz backer, Mo Brooks later supported Trump’s campaign, but his opportunist status didn‘t help him reach 20%.

The anti-Trump brigade at CNN foolishly headlined its wishful -thinking report, “A Donald Trump-endorsed candidate just might lose in Alabama today.”  Despite high hopes for a Trump humiliation, that didn’t happen. CNNers apparently forgot that Donald Trump won Alabama by more than 27 points in 2016.

Yet to come is a Sept. 25 runoff election followed by a Dec. 12 general election.

There is an important lesson for Arizona GOP Senate 2018 hopefuls or a Democrat counting on crossover votes. They would be wise to focus on this race. It appears the road to the Senate is paved by Donald Trump. McCain-led, amnesty supporter and incompetent incumbent Sen. Jeff Flake who was recently chastised by RNC chair Ronna Romney McDaniel, will be running for reelection after loudly proclaiming his refused to endorse GOP nominee Trump and declaring neither he nor anyone in his family would vote for him for President.
