A Glitch in the Matrix: Another “electric shock” to the Dying Media

As it is more and more evident every day, and as it was explained by Dave Rubin, the mainstream media is based on an old dying model that is being replaced by new media and new technology so quickly that its faults are becoming glaringly obvious. With the advent of social media and video platforms, the mainstream media saw its dominance challenged and taken over first by citizen journalists, and then by an array of self-taught, well-educated, literate and in some cases, harder-working fellows who woke up to the lie presented by The Matrix. Those inhabitants of the cave managed not only to abandon the reservation but also quickly learned to take advantage of the new opportunity to correct the Matrix via occasional, but increasingly more frequent electric shocks. With a mainstream media that is mostly dead, many people ask, what will replace it? But perhaps, the best question to ask is, do we need to replace it? Many millions, if not billions of users who flood social media and video platforms on a daily basis to produce and spread real news as well as to challenge the ever-shrinking relevance of the corporate news borg seem to, with their actions, state that there is no need for a giant structure, a centralized body made of 5 or 6 arms that feed propaganda all day long. Instead, information can circulate freely and information consumers must learn to reach and filter that information all by themselves, just as one generation ago, people managed to learn to switch channels on their analog TV sets. A Glitch in the Matrix is a documentary that analyzes and assesses a recent viral interview where Cathy Newman sought to ambush Jordan Peterson. The outcome of that interview, as explained by Peterson himself, unpacked a deeper political, psychological and archetypal levels of interaction, perhaps for the first time on television. That moment where the hunter became the prey, caused what many now label as “a glitch in the matrix”, one of those moments when the short circuit is just impossible to hide and when the curtain of deceit is pulled down to reveal the reality of the society we live in.
