I guess it depends what website you’re data is being sold from, but on Facebook, you’re worth a little more than the average price of a Big Mac. $5.20 is the price for your Facebook login information. It probably goes without saying that Facebook probably sells a lot of it themselves since they’ve had a rough history lately for releasing personal data. As if it wasn’t already bad enough that you’re constantly tracked and monitored online. It’s pretty often that someone will be talking about a product or buy one online and not long after, Facebook and Google will be showing you ads on their websites for similar products. Chances are if you’re on the internet then everything about you is already known out there to those who listen. Anything with a microphone built in is always listening. It’s not that startling how low Facebook goes for considering how little you can do with it, but the fact that it is on the market shows that your own data is probably out there waiting to be bought. Everyone knows how unsafe Facebook actually is, and the number of people who still actually use it is actually pretty low. Most people only use it to keep in touch with friends and family or marketing. Maybe this new data will convince people to leave Facebook for a different platform in the near future.
