Getting fido to fetch a rifle, seriously (VIDEO)

You may be familiar with Boomer, the rifle-retrieving fang for hire in Far Cry 5, but 5.11 Tactical decided to see if the trick could be done in real life with an actual pooch.

Tapping in Special Operations vet Rick Hogg and his trusty K9, Duco, the pair worked through the retrieval process gradually until the four-legged companion was able to bring back an actual AR from inside a building. Sure, it’s wrapped in fire hose and tape to keep Duco from needing doggy dental work, but they did prove the concept anyway.

Now if they could get him to run in and bring out a six-pack, that would be great.

Getting Fido to fetch a rifle is one thing, but getting Fido to make sure he doesn’t stick the muzzle in the dirt is another.
I had a black Pitbull named Warphead that would literally fetch anything. On a construction job one day I proved this by throwing a 12 foot 4×4 pressure treated post. I could only manage to throw it about 6 feet but my Warphead went after it. It took him a few seconds to find the center point, but once he did he picked it up and did (what I called) his victory lap around the yard with it in his mouth. What was hilarious about it was watching him trying to stop with the 4×4 in his mouth. So heavy was the 4×4 that when Warphead tried to stop it was like an overloaded forklift. Both his back legs would come up off the ground. He would also fetch sticks (or anything else as long as you said “Get the gitty”) that I would throw up into trees. A tree in my front yard had a large limb that went way out over the road. People driving by would stop and take pictures of Warphead whenever he was out on that limb. He was a once in a lifetime dog.
