Russia deploys advanced short-range air defence missile systems in Syria

During a visit of Russian Youtube bloggers at an airbase in Latakia were spotted new Tor-M2 fully-automated surface-to-air missile systems manufactured by Almaz-Antey’s Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol.

Russia has deployed advanced Tor-M2 short-range air defence missile systems in Syria after the U.S.-led missile strikes on Syrian regime chemical weapons sites.

This is one of the newest Russian air defence missile system with combat vehicle on tracked chassis is designed to provide air defence for military and public facilities against cruise missiles and other targets flying at medium, low and extremely low altitudes in the heavy air and electronic countermeasures environment.

Tor-M2 can simultaneously detect more than 40 targets, track and attack four of them at once at a range of up to 23,000 feet and at altitudes of up to 19,700 feet.

Update: Syrian Army punches its way forward in south Damascus, advances against ISIS from multiple directions

BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:23 P.M.) – The Syrian Army and allied paramilitary forces have scored another series of advances against Islamic State militants in southern Damascus, gaining ground in the district of Hajjar al-Aswad.

Sources report that in the Ma’adhiyah neighborhood, government troops backed by armor, artillery and airstrikes captured locations in the local industrial area, including a scrapyard and several nearby factory buildings.

Moreover, the Syrian Army has seized at least a dozen buildings inside the neighborhood of Al-Jorah, marking its official entry into the residential area after the local orchards were captured two days ago.

According to Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Joudeh, the Syrian Army is yet to make a dedicated push in the district of Yarmouk Camp, with the elite Tiger Forces Division still amassing on this axis.
