Alex Jones made an appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast this week and, in standard Jones manner, went into a bit of a loony craze.

After talking about the post-birth abortion concept, he also stated that George Soros, the pin-up boy for racist antisemitics, wanted to pay him $5 million to pump Bitcoin.

Conspiracies are nothing new due to the advent of the internet, and countless in the cryptocurrency community seem susceptible to them.

Many of us who have purchased Bitcoin over the years have done so because of their disappointment with the present global status quo.

The central banks of the world and their quantitive easing combined with what some view as ever-growing state control underpins some of the key reasons why folks think Bitcoin is their saviour.

Many members of the cryptocurrency community will not trust the government or the elite.

This trust problem is heightened additionally when the industry they have made to subvert their power is not only full of shoddy altcoins, but is currently being integrated with traditional big business.

As such, they are an particularly sceptical lot.

This scepticism indicates that although mainstream news outlets are distrusted, alternative forms of media have obtained popularity. Add to this that they are typically right-wing, it is little wonder that concepts of conspiracies gain some traction.

The conspiracies are not limited to just global difficulties though.

They have crept into the industry itself. Many Bitcoin Cash enthusiasts think that BTC has been wrestled away from its original concepts thanks to Blockstream, who they accuse of being funded by the Bilderberg Group.

When the QuadrigaCX founder passed away, there was a mania over whether it was all a hoax.

Some go as far as to think that Bitcoin was in truth developed by the NSA under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto.

The rise of the internet was meant to lead to a democratisation of information.

Ultimately, information could be spread freely anywhere in the world. On the other hand though, we currently see a world full of disinformation, which means folks have become the most sceptical of beings.

Critical thinking, questioning of sources, and listening to both sides have become critical skills, unless you desire to end up down a rabbit hole where Alex Jones is going to keep you company.
