Why Every American Should Give a Damn What Happens to Assange!

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

These people participating in the three ring circus…actually the crime ring circus of washington’s district of criminals, have a number one enemy. You know who it is? It’s this guy. Think what you will about Julian Assange, they’ve been wanting to get at this guy for a long time.

London’s Metropolitan Police arrested the WikiLeaks founder at the Ecuadorian Embassy in the British capital on Thursday. The arrest came after Ecuador dropped Assange’s asylum status, effectively evicting him from their embassy.

Assange hadn’t left the embassy since August 2012, fearing that if he stepped off Ecuador’s diplomatic soil he would be arrested and extradited to the U.S. for publishing thousands of classified military and diplomatic cables through WikiLeaks.

The police said Assange was detained “on a warrant issued by Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 29 June 2012, for failing to surrender to the court.” They later confirmed he was also placed under arrest “on behalf” of U.S. law enforcement authorities, who had filed a formal extradition request. The Department of Justice unveiled its long-secret indictment against Assange later Thursday, which shows he’s facing at least one computer hacking charge.

In the words of his attorney “this is an Unprecedented effort by the united states politicians seeking to extradite a foreign journalist to face criminal charges for publishing truthful information.” Since launching Wikileaks back in 2006 Assange has an impeccable track recorded of publishing iron-clad documented truth. And, as we all know, truth is treason in the empire of lies and must be punished accordingly.

Wikileaks put out the kind of information that would have put the New York Times or the Washington Post in the running for a Nobel prize.

So, what’s happening is that a publisher of truth…in other words a true journalist, who dedicated himself to shining the light on specific evils within the crime syndicate known as government, is being set up to be prosecuted and put away for simply telling the truth.

Like I said, Assange set up Wikileaks in 2006 with the aim of obtaining and publishing confidential documents and images.

The organisation hit the headlines four years later when it released footage of US soldiers killing civilians from a helicopter in Iraq.

Former US intelligence analyst Bradley Manning was arrested in 2010 for disclosing more than 700,000 confidential documents, videos and diplomatic cables to Wikileaks.

Manning said he only did so to spark debates about foreign policy, but US officials said the leak put lives at risk. Since when are U.S. Officials concerned about lives? Only when it serves their interests.

Manning was found guilty by a court martial in 2013 of charges including espionage. But his jail sentence was later commuted by Obama.

Manning was recently jailed for refusing to testify before an investigation into Wikileaks’ role in revealing the secret files.

The Justice Department’s unsealed indictment shows that Assange has been charged with computer hacking crimes for trying to illegally access “secret” materials on a U.S. government computer. The charge is officially listed as “conspiracy to commit computer intrusion.”

The indictment accuses Assange of trying to access the secret material “with reason to believe that such information so obtained could be used to the injury of the United States and the advantage of any foreign nation.”

The charges relate to materials stolen by Manning.

Obviously there is still no evidence of this…but the government’s not in the business of providing facts and evidence.

The indictment against Assange alleges that the “primary purpose of the conspiracy was to facilitate Manning’s acquisition of classified information related to the national defense of the United States so that Wikileaks could publicly disseminate the information on its website.”

Assange faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison, the U.S. Justice Department said.

People who trust government say that Assange is an enemy of the US while others say he’s a patriot and a hero who was willing to stick his neck out and let Americans know what their corrupt government is doing.

So here’s the Government getting caught committing war crimes and the corporate-funded politicians seek to strip this guy of his freedoms as punishment for exposing and publishing those war crimes. And in one fell swoop they pt the entire first amendment and the rights of every journalist to publish truthful and damning information about the government on the chopping block.

While Assange’s leaking of classified U.S. diplomatic and security information has infuriated the U.S. government, his arrest has drawn loud cries from press freedom advocates who argue he provided the materials to journalists in the public’s interest.

Edward Snowden, the U.S. intelligence contractor who leaked thousands of secret documents from the National Security Agency revealing the extent of the U.S. government’s covert data gathering around the world, sent a tweet on Thursday noting that the United Nations has repeatedly called on the UK government to let Assange walk free, deeming his hiding in the Ecuadorian embassy an “arbitrary detention.”

Snowden tweeted, “Images of Ecuador’s ambassador inviting the UK’s secret police into the embassy to drag a publisher of–like it or not–award-winning journalism out of the building are going to end up in the history books. Assange’s critics may cheer, but this is a dark moment for press freedom.”

What do you think? Is Assange a criminal or a hero? A trouble maker or a journalist?
