THE SISTINE CHAPEL UNCOVERED:

The Final Judgment, Michelangelo  Year: 1536–1541  Type: Fresco,  Location: Sistine Chapel, Vatican City

Let’s begin with,

Matthew 7: 3-5 (KJV Holy Bible)

“And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

The Mote:

The word ‘mote‘ is defined in the Strong’s Concordance as Greek word G2595 κάρφος karphos and means: (to wither); a dry twig or straw: – mote.

We can see in this scene from Michelangelo’s The Final Judgment a mote, a dry twig or straw, in the shape of a cross that is withering and falling down!

The Beam:

The word ‘beam‘ is defined in the Strong’s Concordance as Greek word G1385 δοκός dokos and means: (through the idea of holding up); a stick of timber: – beam.

We can see in this scene from Michelangelo’s The Final Judgment a beam that is being erected (through the idea of holding up)!

The mote and the beam from Matthew 7 in the Bible are both explicitly painted within The Final Judgment - It is absolutely amazing! 

The Eyes - (Mote in Right Eye / Beam in Left Eye):

The eyes are clearly distinguishable by following the blue trim and the oval outlines surrounding each individual scene: the mote (in the right eye) and the beam (in the left eye).

The Dragon:

Taking a step back when analyzing the eyes of the fresco, we can see that the composition of the painting cleverly disguises the face of one gnarly dragon! 

Here are some images of dragon faces aligned side by side to help visually perceive the dragon in the painting: 

A filtered overlay of The Final Judgment really makes the dragon face pop out and also helps us conceptualize the texture of the dragon’s face which is comprised of human flesh.

“And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12: 9 KJV Holy Bible)

The Lion of the tribe of Judah:

In one of the dragon eyes, we see a man with a very strange and obtrusive left shoulder being crushed underneath the beam.

The beam that is being held up is actually being erected on top of a lion.  This represents the rebel angels trying to overthrow the kingdom of the Lion of the tribe of Judah (The Lord Jesus Christ)!

“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.” (Revelation 5:5 KJV Holy Bible)

Wow, the Lion of the tribe of Judah that opens the book initiating the final judgment is mysteriously hidden inside a painting called The Final Judgment!

Skinned Man:

Michelangelo strangely added a self-portrait in the painting, depicting himself as St. Bartholomew after he had been flayed (skinned alive).

This uncanny scene directly pertains to the spiritual reality Isaiah the prophet spoke about in the following scripture.

“Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:” (Isaiah 30: 1 KJV Holy Bible)

This explains how the spirit of Satan is hiding inside human flesh, using it as a covering!

Lucifer the Arch Enemy:

According to the Roman Catholic Church, this is a mural of Christ - that is absolutely not true.  Isaiah 14 confirms, this a depiction of Lucifer who led the rebellion against the Lord Jesus Christ, shown coming through an archway with the virgin whilst standing upon a cloud.

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 

For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 

Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” (Isaiah 14: 12-15 KJV Holy Bible)

The Skeleton Coffin:

On the opposite side of The Final Judgment in the Sistine Chapel is a wall that features this really disturbing kid-sized coffin.

Displayed on this coffin is the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and we see it also produces a skeleton.

6 and 9 Floor:

The number 6 in the Bible represents the number of Man and implies man’s existence sans (without) Christ. 

The number 9 represents the finality or the judgment.

All of mankind without Christ (6) will be judged (9).  Here is how Christ saves us from 6-9:

“He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matthew 27: 42-46 KJV Holy Bible)

Because Christ was a perfect fulfillment of the judgment of man (6-9) and He is the atonement for the sins committed in the flesh of man, he saves us from coming under judgment.

Goat Heads / Female Reproductive System:

Throughout the ceiling of the chapel, we see goat heads mounted at the pinnacle of each pyramid in the architecture. 

Matthew 25: 31-33 & 41 (KJV Holy Bible)

31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

We all were born into the carnal sinful flesh system by way of the male and female reproductive system.  The only way to escape the judgment of the goats is if you are converted into a sheep (one of The Lord God’s children which are covered by the atonement of the Good Shepard: The Lord Jesus Christ).  This happens when you are born of a new Spirit (The Holy Spirit).

John 3:6  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (KJV Holy Bible)

Devil Face:

Encapsulating the dragon is the face of the devil.  The eyes are in orange, the pyramids outline the ears and everything in the color of blue is the open mouth of the devil (with all of the humans inside his outstretched mouth).

The Worm That Dieth Not:

The entire ceiling makes the worm that dieth not from the Bible, representing the never-ending hell for the unconverted souls of humanity.  

We can see the ceiling’s ribbed formation making the body of the worm.  The help image is useful to match the worm’s eyes and open mouth.  Please note, the worm’s body is actually facing the opposite direction on the ceiling in comparison with the help image.   The grotesque eyes and mouth of the worm are identified in orange, with a green tongue.
