What Did Jesus Really Say About Homosexuality?

Answering a prevailing biblical argument

An answer for those that claim “Jesus never spoke to the sin of homosexuality…so, therefore, it must be okay with him”
 

Actually Jesus did condemn homosexuality. When the Bible is examined in context, that truth becomes a stark reality.

For starters, Jesus clearly laid down that marriage was “from the beginning” ordained as one man and one woman – only. One man and one woman only precludes a homosexual marriage. Therefore, anyone engaging in that activity – even outside marriage – is engaging in sexual immorality, according to Jesus.

Also, Jesus used Sodom and Gomorrah as an example of the judgment that is coming on the world in the last days (Matt. 10:15, 11:23-24, Luke 10:12, 17:19). The overarching sin of that region was undeniably (in biblical context) all manner of sexual perversion, with homosexuality being specifically described.

Paul, Peter, and Jude also repeat Jesus’ example of the day of judgment and its comparison to the sin of Sodom – Romans 9:29, Jude 1:7, 2 Peter 2:6.

Additionally, Jesus said that one of the prevailing signs of His return (Luke 17:28-29) was that the earth would become “just like the days of Lot.” His words present additional definitive decrees against the sin of homosexuality – the prevailing sin of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Please understand, homosexuality is not the “unforgivable sin,” but sin nonetheless, and one that is a biblical sign of judgment against a degenerate earthly generation. You have now seen that this truth is clearly spoken out of the mouth of Jesus himself.

And of course we have to honestly deal with John 1:1-14 if we are going to appeal to the “Jesus never said….” argument. Because in that passage we are told that Jesus is God in the flesh (The Word was with God and the Word was God, and the Word became flesh…). You know – the same God that condemned homosexuality in the Old Testament as well – in the most black and white of terms.

So, to appeal to the “Jesus never said” argument, fails. It begins by affirming that you will believe only what Jesus said or never said. How do you know what He said? By the New Testament! If one is going to make this argument, then they must accept everything the New Testament says on this matter.

Also, that same New Testament contains Romans 1. This is very plain language about homosexuality. And it is from a man (Paul) who was instructed by Jesus himself after having witnessed, in the flesh, the resurrected Christ.

By the way, homosexuality is not the only sin of sexual immorality. Fornication – the sin of sex before marriage, adultery – the sin of sex with someone else other than your spouse, bestiality, pornography, pedophilia, and rape – immediately come to mind. Think of the last four on that list – in particular. Jesus never spoke directly to them either. Does this mean that they are “okay” as well? Of course not. To argue a point from what one “thinks” that someone else “did not say,” is a very dangerous proposition.
