The Strait of Hormuz is the world’s most important oil choke-point because of the large volumes of oil that flow through the strait.
In 2018, its daily oil flow averaged 21 million barrels per day (bpd), or the equivalent of about 21% of global petroleum liquids consumption.
As of this writing at 5:40 PM eastern US time, if a producer of oil from out of the ground wants anyone to take it, the producer must PAY $44 a barrel for someone to take it! Yes, you read that correctly; not only give away the oil, they have to PAY to give it away!
This has happened because global demand for oil and gasoline has plunged to almost nothing, and ALL (literally ALL) the storage capacity of the entire planet, is full. There’s nowhere to PUT the oil if it comes out of the ground.
This situation has never taken place before in recorded history.

You got it Bass Ackwards. It’s the people that purchased and were holding the futures contracts that got their butts handed to them. Most people that were left holding the bag were futures traders that had never had any intention or ability of taking delivery that are going to feel the horrible pain. It will probably bankrupt many. Yaaayyyyyy is all I can say.
anything that is less than 30 days is a cash market including futures–thats what got killed–its a very small percentage in the oil market–margins,pure future bets are gambling,nothing more–the refiners and others like airlines buy futures for protection against price ups/downs on inventory they own–it is insurance–it will be interesting to see how much was actually lost–probably not much–always is when there are no bids on any commodity–1 bid can distort a market huge when its the only bid like the -37 bucks and if the future contract was only on say a hundred bucks in a locked account, big deal–makes for good headline like i said

Its futures trading, either the producers have ongoing contracts – or not, they either keep the pumps on -or not, what they will not do is produce oil for less than it costs to keep production infrastructure going because hedge fund market algos say they must. The tap gets turned off till the price goes up.
Be sure to post up a really good apology when next week rolls around, and there still ain’t no war…. And moving the prediction a week, a month, or even a year doesn’t count.
