May 12th, 2014 an important date in the life of Arkansas native Jeffrey Kael Maness. From living in his car to celebrating his third year of home ownership today 10/30/2020. Kael is a role model, a modern-day success story, a positive influenc-er, a life saver and a walking talking “opioid overdose rescue kit”. History, life experience, the help of friends, family, healthcare professionals, love, prayer and an inner willingness to change, Kael got clean on 5-12-2014. He is a well-known local hero and role model to many. Maness helps men and women with the decision to get clean. Instead of filling his life with drugs, hard times and death-defying events, Kael is filling his life with helping others and literally helping to save lives, a positive influenc-er showcasing a standard for others to follow.

Associates and past St. Louis region media articles report Maness was a drummer that played with Fenton, MO punk band Opposites Attack. Associates and the lifestyle helped fuel his addiction. He was smoking K2, synthetic marijuana, more and taking painkillers. At one point in his life reports the St. Louis Post Dispatch in a 2017 “heroine impact series” article, his car became his home. He and a friend used heroin, stealing and strong-arming people for cash. He broke into his parents’ house, even stealing from his little brother’s piggy bank.

The above is not the Jeffrey Kael Maness of today. In publicly posted social media reports today Kael is celebrating his third anniversary of home ownership with associates, friends and family. “It probably never would’ve happened without NA and the support of all the wonderful people in my life. Happy to be clean today, said Jeffery Kael Maness. 2014 homeless to a 2017 homeowner, all thanks to the grace of God, my recovery program, and friends and family that’s supported me. We do recover,” posted Kael.

Every human deserves a second, third, fourth and every other chance it takes to change their lives, to get clean. And if they relapse, then do it all over again. According to US government agencies over 1 million Americans have died due to the opioid crisis. According to the CDC.gov collaboration is essential for success in preventing opioid overdose deaths. Medical personnel, emergency departments, first responders, public safety officials, mental health and substance use treatment providers, community-based organizations, public health, and members of the community all bring awareness, resources, and expertise to address this complex and fast-moving epidemic.
