How good was Calvin Goode? Death doesn’t alter his racism

Former Phoenix City Councilman Calvin Goode has died at age 93. His death is featured as an Arizona Republic front page report with two additional jump pages, extolling him as a “civil rights reformer” possessing a “gentle manner.”

Not a word exposes his own bigotry, exhibited in his letter to the same newspaper’s editor when Kate Gallego, now Phoenix Mayor, was running for the City Council District 8 seat in 2013. Both Goode and Gallego were/are committed democrats though for him their similarity ended there. Goode was not challenging the Harvard and Wharton Business School educated Gallego’s credentials. He vigorously opposed her lack of skin pigment as he gave voice to manipulative race-based council district gerrymandering.
