The Grocery Store Shelves Are Emptying—Buy Food Now While Available on You and Your Loved Ones Will Die

Famine, a severe shortage of food affecting a large number of people, can be the result of either man-made or natural causes. Natural causes include droughts, plant disease, insect plagues, floods, and earthquakes. The human causes include poverty, war, deliberate crop destruction, the inefficient distribution of food, and why not, an engineered COVID virus that will crash the entire economic system.

Our ever-changing world is becoming a more and more hostile climate for growing plants and feeding animals for food. Between natural disasters and food shortages, the possibilities for starvation or dehydration within the next 50-to-100 years are imminent, though one thing remains certain: food storage will save your life. Those who have prepped for a while know that, although it’s wise to be ready for a monetary collapse or the breakdown of civilization, the likeliest use of their preparations will happen during ordinary “bad times.” Natural or manmade catastrophes and economic difficulties are the times when you’re going to dig into your stockpiles—and find out how prepared you actually are.

Almost every continent has experienced famine during some time in history, with North and South America remaining relatively of widespread famines. The European continent has only suffered famines occasionally, but starvation caused by World War II resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. The majority of researchers list about 400 famines that have occurred during recorded history. The most severe famines have been attributed to drought, conflict, and misguided economic policies.

That’s right. And if you think about it – as in, critical thinking, – you will (should) realize the utter devastation that will surely result when the unthinkable happens… a SHTF collapse of our food supply which will kill multi-millions of you.

I only say ‘you’ in reference to the general population. Hopefully ‘you’ reading this are already prepared to some extent, whereas those who are not – will be facing near certain death.

Let me explain…

I can’t explain why, but for some reason, I am able to clearly see many of the systemic risks within our modern way of life. Perhaps it’s simply because I am not a major sufferer of ‘normalcy bias’ and do not accept that any or all of these systems will remain functional forever. Maybe it’s because I do not automatically accept the ‘status quo’. Instead, I know that things do change, and sometimes very rapidly for the worse…

I’m sure that many of you too have the uncanny ability to recognize risk – especially those risks which could devolve and ‘domino’ into catastrophic life-altering results… even those which could potentially kill off many, many, millions of us. It has happened before. Why should it not happen again? Particular in today’s modern era where most people literally depend on many various external systems to keep them alive.

People assume that there will always be food in the grocery stores. People assume that there will always be electricity (and most people have no idea the horrible ramifications of life without electricity). People assume a-lot of things.

If there were to be a major food disruption in the United States (for example), my instinct tells me that we would suffer worse than a poor ‘3rd-world’ country. They’ve learned how to survive with little. These countries do not have the ‘hand-out’ social programs as in the US. Can you imagine today’s modern ‘facebook’ generation (for example) having to figure out where to get their next meal?

Here’s a challenge for you… Without defaulting to the thought process that ‘it could never happen’ or without attempting to rationalize that there are no possible circumstances that could add up to such a disruption, just imagine ‘what if’ the grocery store shelves became ‘thin’ or empty… How much food do you think most average Americans have in their homes?

Based on what I’ve read (and my instincts) I suspect that most urbanites and suburbanites probably don’t have much more than one or maybe two weeks of substantial meals to feed their family. In fact, I really believe that it’s probably worse than that on average. Most of our population now live in cities and suburbia. What do you think these people will do after not having eaten for 3 meals? One thing’s for sure, nearly ALL of them will have a priority to find some food! Now imagine 3 days without food? Now we’re talking about some serious hunger – which is something that most of us have not experienced before. What do you think will happen as a result?

Note: I have avoided talking about the water issue, which would be even worse than a lack of food issue…

Have you read “Light’s Out USA”? That will provide a clue…

Why do I say that the majority will die in a food collapse?

Because the majority has no way to procure their own food without ‘money’. And in a situation where there is little or no food to be had, money won’t matter. These people will die.

How long can a person live without food? A more important question is, how long can a person adequately ‘function’ without food – before becoming too weak to really help themselves? Answer: NOT LONG!

Within a month we will have a massive die-off of millions upon millions of people.

Would other nations come to our rescue? And if they did, how much effect would it actually have? (Probably not too much). Since I have not described a scenario of the ’cause’ of food supply collapse, it’s impossible to adequately surmise any possible aid. Maybe most of the world has become affected by the collapse…

Not only will people die from starvation, but many will die from the ensuing chaos. Unless you have a vivid imagination, it might be difficult to imagine the potential horror of a city (all the cities) and suburbia without food (or very little food). While people still had their strength, many would become so desperate to feed themselves and their families that they would turn to do things that were unthinkable before.

Who would survive? Those who might survive will be those who have at least prepared. Those who have thought ahead and planned and/or changed their way of life to one that’s more self-sufficient and self-reliant. Those who may have relocated to a place better suited for such a life. Those who already have the ability and capability to procure their own food. While none of these is a guarantee, at least they are substantial.

Most people will scoff at the notion of a food supply collapse – because it has never happened in their lifetime and is unthinkable. My response would be that although it would take a seemingly unimaginable set of circumstances to affect the general food supply and distribution system in such a way, the fact is that we as a people LITERALLY rely on a stocked neighborhood grocery store to keep us alive. That in and of itself is motivation enough for me to supplement that with a more self-reliant source (or sources).

I’ve rambled on for a thousand words now, and my point is to simply (but horrifically) imagine life without plentifully filled grocery stores. Imagine how many people would perish because of it. Imagine how long (short) it would take for the chaos and starvation to take its toll. And then ask yourself what are you going to do about it…

A Real Food Plan

Immediate – The power has been out for several hours. Not just for you, the power is out for several miles in every direction. You do not want to open your refrigerator or freezer. Your food in the refrigerator will only last around 4 hours with the power out as long as nobody is opening it up. Food in your full freezer can last up to 48 hours if it remains closed. Replacing this food can be an unnecessary expense.

After a couple of hours, you will want to hook up a generator to your refrigerator if you have one. If your refrigerator is running you will be able to open and close your refrigerator as normal. If you do not have a generator, you may need to cook a lot of your food or something because you might not have much time before the temperatures start to rise in your refrigerator and freezer. This is not ideal, but at least you can salvage some of your food. You can also put some food in coolers if you can get some ice from somewhere.

So what do you eat? Think of food that does not require electricity. If you have a gas burner or a camping stove, you can cook some of your canned foods that require cooking. You can also eat granola bars, fruits, and vegetables that are not in the refrigerator or pull out those MREs that you have had laying around. It might also be a good idea to have some boxed dinners in your pantry that do not require anything refrigerated that you can cook. For breakfast, maybe some just add water pancake mix.

Short Term – After the first day, you will be needing to make sure that you can get some gas for your generator. This might be difficult since gas stations use electricity to pump the gas as well as to charge you for the fuel. If you can’t find a gas station you are going to need to start using the food in your refrigerator and freezer before your generator runs out of gas.

Hopefully, you have stored food before now. Three weeks would be an absolute minimum of food in your storage. If the power is out longer than three weeks and that is all you have stored, you will be in big trouble. Six months to a year or more of food storage is much safer in my opinion. You can’t go wrong having too much canned and boxed foods in your pantry as long as you cycle through them. Consider writing expiration dates on them so you can quickly see what needs to be used. This will help to keep you from being stuck with a lot of expired foods.

If the power is out, most grocery stores will be closed. They will not have a way to charge you for your food, monitor their inventory, or even keep their lights on. Their food will be spoiling as well. Stores just do not have a plan for long term power failures. Eventually, they will be forced to sell their food without power, but until then, you may have trouble finding food if the power is out.

Long Term – If the power has been out for over a month, it is a good chance it will be out for a long while. Your food stores can only last so long and you cannot count on getting your food resupplied as readily as before. Even your freeze-dried food that is expected to last 25 years is only going to help you if you have enough to feed you and your family.

Something you can do now to be ready for this is to grow a garden. If you have food growing, you will have plenty of food when the crop is ready. Also, consider investing in canning supplies. If you can your food, as it grows, it can be good for another couple of years. I guarantee that the quality of the food you grow is much better than anything you can buy already canned.

You can also raise a few animals and learn how to get milk, eggs, and meat from them. Some communities allow for some chickens, rabbits, and other animals in your backyard. Find out what the local ordinances are for your area.

Do what you can to make sure that you have plenty to eat in any kind of a catastrophic situation. They happen all the time. There is just a matter of time before they happen to you. Store food and stay fed.
