Biden prioritizes teachers’ unions over students

It couldn’t be more obvious that the calamity affecting American public school students has exacerbated with the duplicitous Biden administration.

Teachers who aren’t teaching are still getting paid as students are falling further behind, suffering academically, emotionally and socially after missing a year of actual instruction, ultimately rendering them less able to compete in the global economy.

Despite the fact that far-left teachers’ unions wield tremendous influence in terms of donations and votes, Center for Disease Control Director Rochelle Walensky has repeatedly asserted that schools can open without teachers being vaccinated since children are less prone to catching or transmitting the virus. Her assertion is substantiated by the official Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

“I also want to be clear that there is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated in order to reopen safely,” Walensky said.

Even far-left Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has had her fill and is pushing for the defiant Chicago Teachers Union to restart in-person classes for approximately 340,000 students.

Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki, already renowned for her repeated use of the phrase “circle back” and who appears to function as a surrogate for the weak president, called a question about whether Biden would take a stand against union obstruction if negotiations continue to stall “unfair.” Asked again Friday if Biden would use the “bully pulpit” to pressure unions to let kids go back to schools, Psaki asserted “I’m just going to reject the premise of the question.”

Tyler Olson, reporting for Fox News, notes President Biden received more contributions from teachers unions than any other candidate during the 2020 election cycle by a wide margin — underscoring the conundrum that may be headed for the White House if those same unions continue to oppose efforts to open schools for in-person learning.

Biden’s campaign hauled in over $232,000 from teachers unions during the 2020 election cycle, according to the Center for Responsive Politics’ “Open Secrets” website. The site shows the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) “account for practically all” political spending from teachers unions.

The second-highest recipient was Socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders, who got a mere $50,996.

The amount of money that went directly to any one candidate, however, pales in comparison to the money teachers unions donated to leftist groups in general — over $23.5 million from the NEA and over $14 million from the AFT. Combined, those two groups spent $43 million in political expenditures during the 2020 election cycle, according to Open Secrets.

To no one’s surprise, both unions endorsed Biden for president in March.
