Rush Limbaugh, whose influence was profound, died today

Rush Limbaugh, the intellectual engine of the conservative movement,  died today at 70, after suffering the ravages of lung cancer, which was diagnosed last year. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn, who announced his passing on Rush‘s radio show today.

His three-hour weekday radio show was broadcast on almost 600 stations  nationwide since it debuted in 1988, becoming the top-rated American radio show with over 43 million daily listeners, according to EIB Excellent in Broadcasting.

Rush Limbaugh was instrumental in shaping the conservative movement that made the election of President Donald Trump possible.

His influence has been profound, even acknowledged publicly by President Trump. A clearly surprised Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation‘s highest civilian honor, during the 2020 State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress. The president thanked the radio host for his longtime charity work and “decades of tireless devotion to our country.” The medal was placed around Limbaugh’s neck by First Lady Melania Trump, who was seated beside him and his wife.

Rush Hudson Limbaugh, III, was also a best selling author with seven books to his credit. He came from a family of lawyers, including his grandfather, father, brother, uncles and cousins who were engaged in the profession.

Rush was a major influence in many of our lives.  He will be greatly missed.
