Pre-election fact: WaPo Fact checker “too busy” to check facts

It’s a rare occurrence when SRAZ takes our readers directly to another news site in an opening paragraph, but this Fox News report by Joseph A. Wulfsohn, titled, “Washington Post fact-checker admits he repeatedly punted McAuliffe’s COVID claims that got ‘Four Pinocchios‘“ rises to a must-read level…particularly since the purposely obscured dishonesty had the ability to affect a crucial election outcome.

Fortunately Virginia’s voters have had their fill of the now-former governor’s far-radical antics and replaced him with self-identified conservative Glenn Yougkin

When your job is to check facts, there is nothing — short of a fire alarm going off in your office — that should intrude on checking facts, unless the incentive to withhold the truth was too great.  The Washington Post is well known as a politically left biased newspaper. That’s a given.  What rises to the level of intolerable is the glibness with which “fact checker” Glenn Kessler described delaying running a fact-check on Terry McAuliffe for nearly a month because ‘we got busy with other stuff.’  The “other stuff” was promoting McAuliffe and his radical stances. Fortunately the contrivances didn’t work and Republican Glenn Youngkin won the election.  The closely watched race is viewed as a  predictor of things to come in 2022.

The Washington Post is known for editorially endorsing democrat presidential candidates and has never endorsed a Republican for president. In 2020, the far-left newspaper stayed true to its precedent and endorsed clearly confused Joe Biden.

In 2013 the WaPo announced it was sold to Amazon owner Jeff Bezos. Known as one of the world’s wealthiest men, Bezos stealthily purchased the generationally-owned newspaper for $250 million in cash — chump change to Bezos, who has a reputed net wealth of $201 billion as of Nov. 10, 2021 according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index which continually fluctuates.

Bezos did not make this Open Secrets list of top political donors, though he and his wife gave $2.5 million to a 2012 campaign to pass Referendum 74, to legalize same-sex marriage in Washington state. With Bezos’ help, it passed 53.7% to 46.3%.
