Meaning that the highest rights we hold in the land guarantee, at least in theory, that one’s money is tied to bedrock that everyone trusts.
People of the Roman era would be greatly perplexed by our current state of cyber money transaction. In Roman times, the currency was silver. The coin was the asset itself and nobody doubted the coin’s validity. Money was an easy concept back then. One either had the money in their hand or they did not.
Now people don’t know what they have. They don’t understand the value of their 401K, the equity in their home, their retire income that they assume will come in the future.
Bo Polny does Jaco one better and calls gold and silver: ‘God’s currency.’
The use of gold and silver as ‘currency’ predates our evil overlords. They depend on the laws of supply and demand the same as their subjects. As the thinking goes, both sides are tied into the same system. And that’s the problem… the problem is not what we humans can agree on that is of value, tradeable.
We could all decide that Michael Jordan rookie cards are the highest value. After all, it’s what people believe and invest in that holds value…
