Magical Sen. Feinstein: Clings to Senate post without showing up

Although California Sen. Dianne Feinstein hasn’t been in her D.C. senate office in months, her staff continues to crank out comments and press releases giving the impression the 89-year-old is still toiling away on behalf of the citizens who pay her salary.

According to her senate website, she advocates for gun control, and sympathetically affirms, “My heart breaks for everyone affected by the mass shooting in Louisville.” Feinstein’s surrogates also bare her leftist spine as they/she calls on Chief Justice Roberts to investigate Justice Clarence Thomas. She invites those who visit her website to “join me on twitter,” though it’s a certainly her staff does the tweeting. Select any of her myriad press releases for an indication of the handle they keeps on issues. A particular favorite is a release indicating, “Feinstein and Colleagues Introduced Legislation to Restore, Protect Americans’ Right to Abortion Nationwide.” Even facing her 90^th birthday in June, she’s never lost her zeal for baby killing. The press release which refers to Republicans as the “extreme party,” uses these foolish and incendiary words, “…the far right’s crusade to stifle the bodily autonomy of pregnant people is leading to disproportionate harm for non-white communities as well as LGBTQ+ communities.” Notice the words, “pregnant people” replaces “women.”

Weeks after her February announcement stating she’d been diagnosed with shingles, Feinstein’s extended absence from the Senate has left democrats scrambling, given the party’s slim 51-49 majority. High-profile dems, short on sympathy, as Republicans gain power, are now calling for her resignation.

Feinstein’s office responded by releasing a statement acknowledging the delays at the Judiciary Committee and announcing that she has asked Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer “to allow another Democratic senator to temporarily serve until I’m able to resume my committee work.”

As internecine pressure mounted, she then announced she will not run for reelection in 2024 but will continue to serve out her current term in office.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, following Biden’s lead on the U.S. Supreme Court appointment, prioritizing DNA over credentials, promises to appoint a black woman if either of California’s U.S. Senate seats became available.

Feinstein’s statement said she intended to return to Washington in March after being diagnosed with shingles, but has been delayed “due to continued complications related to my diagnosis.” She did not offer specifics about her health, though her memory lapses and confusion are no secret, as reported by The Hill.
