The REAL intrigue here is why does such a long, light structure bridge system, have a two pier with such vulnerability of it’s main supports in such a busy harbor/port location???!!!
Usually, any bridge with such exposed main supports, have LARGE,… (MASSIVE) island systems around them to absorb a direct hit from any ship so the bridges do NOT collapse!
In looking at the video’s of this hit, there does not seem to be ANY form of barrier islands around the bridge supports, which means it was only a matter of time until this happened.
Well,.. it finally happened.

Initially I thought this to be nothing more than an accident but after reviewing several videos I’m not so sure. If you watch the video when black smoke begins pouring from the stack the stern of the vessel begins swinging sharply to the left which points the bow of the ship directly at the main column then the collision. If the ship was allowed to glide on its original heading I’m wondering if it would have missed entirely.
