This Cougar is a Speed Swimmer
Not all cats hate water. That myth was dispelled recently when some salmon fishermen in British Columbia spotted something swimming toward their 24-foot boat. Swimming very fast. One of them recorded this video of the odd animal encounter.
The anglers reported that they saw something swimming towards them near the shore, and initially thought it was an otter. As it got closer, however, they could see it paddling, which otters don’t do.
They thought it might be a bear or even a wolf, both species of which regularly enter the water to swim after their prey or move from island to island.
Soon they realized that it was a young cougar. Who knows what drove the cat to enter the water on this occasion, but the fishermen had fresh catch on the boat, and the smell could have lured the predator. Inexperienced cougars who’ve recently left their mothers are more likely to be curious and investigate possible food sources; they are also more likely to be hungry and take bigger risks to get something to eat.
Smartly, the anglers hit the motor and evaded the cat, which according to their report made it back to shore safely, if still hungry.
