What Kind of Dog Clippers Do You Need for Your Furry Friend?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Taking care of a pet, regardless of his size and shape, can be difficult. Especially for first time owners that don’t really know how to do it. Regardless if you are shopping for timothy grass for your hamster or dog clippers for your new Giant Schnautzer, you have to do your research and seek the advice of those who have some experience. This way you will be sure to make the right decision and not waste time and money. Not to mention that it is in your pet’s interest.

What Is Timothy Hay Used for?

When people think about owning a pet they usually think of a dog, or a cat, or the occasional fish or parrot. But many people also prefer smaller animals, such as hamsters or rabbits. Although sometimes disregarded as rodents or even pests, they do make wonderful pets for someone that is looking for a small, cute and manageable animal to take care of. But although they might seem easier to look after, they also have special needs owners have to be careful for and take care of.

Taking care of smaller animals can prove just as challenging as with larger animals. For instance, knowing what kind of timothy hay to buy in order to keep them well fed and happy. Timothy hay is the dried up version of timothy grass, a European indigenous plant, except for the Mediterranean region that is used for feeding cattle. It also has been proven to be very good for smaller animals such as rabbits, hamsters and even guinea pigs. Timothy hay has a high fiber content and is useful to smaller animals in order help them with their digestive systems.

Timothy hay  is also fed to small animals because it helps them keep their teeth and jaws in order. Animals such as rabbits and hamsters need a coarse feeding base in order to help with their teeth growth and sharpening. Also, timothy hay is widely used because it’s an inexpensive food source. Pet owners can find timothy hay, both simple and in various mixes, at almost any pet store.

But knowing what kind of timothy hay your pet needs is why you have to do your research before you go out and buy a 15 pound bag of the stuff. Firstly, you should do your research with the help of a pet store employee or even a veterinarian. They will know how to help you choose the right timothy hay mix for your little friend. Secondly, you should check up on the internet about what kind of dietary requirements your little friend has. Not all rabbits eat alike. Luckily there are a lot of places online you can get information from. There are blogs and forums specially dedicated to the owners of small animals.

What Dog Clippers Are Tight for Your Four Legged Friend?

Dogs need grooming just as people do. While some dog owners will take their furry friends to a special salon, there are those that want to do it by themselves. In which case, the first thing they need is a good pair of  dog clippers . But, although there are many dog clippers to choose from out there, landing on the right one for you and your doggy friend might take some time and market research.

The first thing any dog owner has to understand is that dog hair and human hair differ greatly. That is why you can’t just substitute human hair clippers for dog clippers. Dog clippers are specially designed to cut dog hair, which is usually thicker and softer than human hair. Dogs, as opposed to their owners, can have more than one layer of hair or fur. That is why the dog clippers were designed to reach the undercoat of a dog and give it a uniform cut.

Another thing a dog owner should take into account when shopping for dog clippers is that he doesn’t have to spring for the most expensive ones on his first try. Dog clippers, just as human hair clippers, come in different shapes and sizes, and even from different brands. Buying the most expensive one on your first trip to the store doesn’t make you a dog groomer. Pick up a cheaper one and get a hang of it first. Your friend might not even like how you are handling it and might not even let you close to his fur. This way you know that at least you haven’t spent a fortune on a machine you won’t be using.

Dog clippers are a good thing to have around the house, especially if your dog’s hair gets tangled or you need to do some emergency straightening. But be careful when buying them. Do your research and don’t just go and buy the first one you see in a store. Go online and see what other people are using and then make a decision. And always remember that, if you are not feeling up to it and don’t want to make a mess out of your friend’s fur, there are always dog salons that will happily do the job for you.
