How to Calm Your Anxious Dog

Is your dog worried at night? Do you have trouble settling down when it’s time to go to bed? Believe it or not, most dogs live when the lights go out. However, knowing that it is a common problem does not make it less stressful for parents of pets.

The good news is there is a lot you can do to help your dog sit down at night and sleep. Dogs thrive on the system, so establishing your dog’s sleep routine is very important. For our night owl canines, this can include a few extra steps to relax to prepare for a good night’s sleep.

Here are my tips for a calm sleep routine:

Step 1: Give them Medicine

Giving your dog medicine at bedtime will give him something special to look forward to every night. Combining bedtime with a yummy puppy can also help train your pup to fall asleep. Like most dogs that seem to know in some way when it is time for their people to come home or when it is dinner time, you may soon find that your reminder has given you his medicine so that he can sleep!

Step 2: Provide a safe place to sleep

Does your dog sleep in the same place every night? Probably the answer is yes! Whether it’s their doggie bed which you can get from a best dog beds place, a favorite place on the floor, or a place in bed with you, most of the chicks sleep best when they are in their normal sleeping area. It is our job as dog parents to make sure their sleeping area is as comfortable and cozy as possible so they can ski down and enjoy a night in doggie dreamland.

Step 3: Find his favorite Cuddle Toy

Dogs can also find protection in a special toy.

Now, not just any old toy will make a perfect friend for bedtime. Don’t give him anything with squeakers – that will just blow him away and make him playful! Similarly, anything you often use to play downloads or downloads may not be the best choice. Ideally, you want a toy that only comes out at bedtime or sometimes “down”.

Step 4: Using the Refreshment Scent

Some scents can have a soothing effect on a person’s family members, and so do our friends who move the tails. Spraying your dog’s bed or sleeping toys during the mixing of essential oils is a great way to alleviate any ongoing stress from the day and prepare your puppy to sleep through the night.

Step 5: Silence Time Together

Once your pet is calm, it’s time for my favorite part of the sleep routine – a special time to meet up! Choose any quiet activity that you both enjoy, such as ear piercing while thanking him for being a good boy that day. By getting used to being calm at bedtime, you can reduce the stress of the day and put your baby to bed ready to snuggle up and enjoy those sweet, happy doggie dreams!
