John Carter’s music takes concentration, stamina and patience from the listener to truly appreciate his astounding ability but the rewards are tremendous. For me, it was was especially John Carter who made the clarinet a relevant instrument for free and avant-garde jazz. Many have taken his lead and continued to keep the clarinet in forefront of creative improvised music. And that’s a good thing.

A haunting album of solo clarinet work from Carter – with a good deal of introspection, and a focus on moods that he doesn’t always get to express with some of his larger groups.
