Day 41 & 42, Project 125 Fall Trees oil painting

Today I’m able to spend the whole day home taking care of business and painting, I painted this one from a photo. After painting it, I find it easiest to “deconstruct” my painting by taking a brush over it to soften the background. I kept the colors warm and inviting with juicy brushstrokes. I wanted the sky to feel as though it was filled with light, so I have more red in it than blue.

I also completed another painting last night. I reworked an old painting, one of a beach cottage at Crystal Cove. My brushwork is looser and my colors more filled with light than they were two years ago. I find it interesting how much my painting has evolved in that time.

At this point, I think I am behind one painting and I won’t be pushing myself to paint it. I like where I am going with my paintings right now, a little looser and more painterly brushwork. This is one accomplishment that I’m very pleased with with this project.
