The word “milestone” in connection to the 2020 pandemic rarely means good news these days. But The Great American Paint In has reached a new level in its mission to bring hope and light to this moment in history.

The Great American Paint In today announced that its collection has now reached more than 150 pieces by America’s greatest artists. The Collection currently comprises works from artists in 31 states and Canada.

“We had a vision for this project to document history through great works of art,” said Bill Weinaug, the founder of the project and owner of Gallery CERO near Orlando, Florida. “The collection we have amassed shows that this project connects with people, and I believe what we have put together will be a seminal work in studying this period of time.”

The Great American Paint In is a juried collection. Artists are invited to submit pieces they have created during their COVID-19 experiences, along with a story. There are no limits on form, medium or size, but the piece must convey the unique emotion of this time through the artist’s eyes.

Works are available for viewing and purchase at www.thegreatpaint-in.com.

As the pandemic continues, artists are invited to continue submitting to the project, as well. The Great American Paint In is specifically looking for artists in Alabama, Alaska, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming, with the hope of representing every state. To submit an application, artists should visit www.thegreatpaint-in.com/submissions and fill out a form.

The works selected for The Great American Paint In will one day be collected in a tabletop art history book.

The Great American Paint In was founded by Weinaug and his wife, Mary, art collectors and owners of a gallery under development at their riverside property in Florida. They were inspired by their love of art and the gravity of this moment in time and decided to take traditional “paint out” events and make it into a “paint in.”

About The Great American Paint In

The vision of The Great American Paint In is to allow America’s great artists to share their experience during the 2020 world pandemic through their work to inspire other artists, collectors and the community. The project will collect works of art on its website, www.thegreatpaint-in.com, to create a marketplace for the pieces. The project will also create an upscale book to document this moment in history. The Great American Paint In is a project of art collectors Bill and Mary Weinaug. The two own a riverside oasis, Wekiva Island, and a soon to open art gallery there, Gallery CERO. Each year they also sponsor and run a “en plein air” event called the Wekiva PaintOut. This special project, therefore, is referred to as “paint in”, which is an event where artists paint within a space or in an enclosed environment during a period of time for the purpose of completing paintings of their life from their life.
