David R Villegas releases new piano album 'Look Deeper'
The songwriter and producer of piano music known as David R Villegas has released his latest official album, “Look Deeper.” It contains 11 original David R Villegas tracks for an approximate total listening time of 40 mins. Asked to describe the overall theme of “Look Deeper,” David R Villegas writes, “This album was conceived completely extemporaneously and in the moment. I sat at the piano, hit record, and played to a moment or emotion. Several of the songs on this album are inspired by a several-year journey discovering my familial past.”
While Villegas enjoys exploring moods and methods of other keyboardists, ultimately he’s his own man and does things his own way.
“I write all of my own music,” he says of this. “But I do cover one song in this album called ‘Black Sun,’ which is a variation on a theme from 2013′s ‘Star Trek’ written by Michael Giacchino.”
Seeing how Villegas came into music, it’s not surprising he took it to the lengths he’s come.
“Fortunately for me growing up,” he writes, “we had a piano in the house. I would play it regularly and teach myself to find melodies and harmony that I enjoyed. I learned to combine emotion with musical structure. My technical side came purely from vocal training.”
