Best beaches to visit in Spain
Some people on their holidays prefer to go all out: safari trips, hiking, snorkelling and clubbing all night long. Others though would much rather spend that small amount of time they’ve got off work relaxing, either by the pool or on a beautiful sandy beach. If you’re the latter, this guide can maybe help you decide the best place to choose for ultimate relaxation if you’re planning a trip to Spain.
If you’re travelling with your family, you’ll want to make certain that wherever you’re travelling the beaches are clean and safe for the kids to play on. Many of the beaches in Spain have been awarded Blue Flags meaning that they have high water quality, clean sand and are safe, so watch out for these to know you’re somewhere good.
The Spanish island of Ibiza, despite being known for its party towns and clubs, has a number of Blue Flag beaches. One of the best for families to visit has to be Cala Llenya. A beautiful sandy beach that’s wide with plenty of room for sunbathing, it is surrounded by pine forests. A good sign is that the locals love it, and you’ll often find them grilling fish in the shade there on a weekend.
Benidorm is another resort which often surprises people with the high quality of its beaches due to its reputation as being a ‘tacky’ place for British holidaymakers to visit. Levante beach is within easy reach of most of the hotels such as Marconi or La Estacion Hotel requiring only a short walk, or bus trip for the little ones, down to the sands. Again, families are catered for perfectly with plenty of slides and floats to keep them occupied, as well as watersports such as jet skiing and paragliding available for the older and more adventurous.
For a bit of peace and quiet on your beach holiday, head to Genoveses near Almeria. There are no bars, no restaurants and hardly any people to bother you here. This beach is usually only frequented by Spanish holidaymakers who know where it is due to its hidden nature on a track from the little village of San Jose. You’re guaranteed lovely weather as it is apparently the driest place in Spain and is within the Cabo de Gata-Nijar Natural Park.
This is just a tiny sampling of some of the beaches you can visit on a holiday to Spain. Of course, Spain is a big country with a number of small islands, all with very beautiful beaches, so you’re bound to find one to suit you and your fellow travellers somewhere.
