When people think of futuristic buildings, their minds often go to sci-fi novels and films, such as the intricate world-building of Blade Runner.

There’s really no limit to the imagination of something that doesn’t exist: cities in the clouds, gaudy futuristic lights, alternative energy sources, etc.

A lot of it seems entirely fictional, and you might think you’ll never get to experience designs like these up close and personal in your lifetime.

Well, you’d be wrong!

There are many odd, weird, and interesting futuristic architecture buildings in the world today and we’re going to look at some of them now.

Finding Futuristic Buildings in the World Today

Futuristic building designs have a lot in common with commercial steel buildings, such as the use of metal, their functionality, and minimalism.

A lot of these more forward-thinking designs have an odd and (sometimes) impractical flair to them, though.

Some futuristic building ideas are still only that: ideas. But there are plenty of structures around the world that you can go see for yourself right now.

1. Galaxy Soho

Located in Beijing and designed by the late, great Zaha Hadid, this building features four main buildings connected via various walkways and bridges.

Every aspect of this complex is circular, round, and flowing. The bridges and walkways are all curved and fluid, creating a continuous sense of motion throughout.

Every square inch flows to the next, making this building feel weird and all over the place, yet entirely connected and in unison.

If you were to look at this building from the inside, you’d think a UFO dropped it off on Earth personally.

2. Reflections at Keppel Bay

This building is actually a trio of pairs of futuristic skyscrapers that curve and tilt like they’re the Leaning Tower of Pisa–just with more angular slopes.

These structures are in Singapore and were designed by Daniel Libeskind. And just like an eccentric fashion designer, he had to think outside of the box with this project.

It’s weird and feels unnatural to see such tall and relatively skinny buildings curve as these towers do, but they make their mark in a unique way.

3. Strata SE1

This 148-meter residential building is located in London and is sometimes nicknamed the “Electric Razor.”

Its somewhat triangular and ridged design is rather sharp, angular, and aggressive and kind of does somewhat resemble a shaving trimmer.

By far, though, its most prominent design is the three wind turbines located at the very top, which speak to the buildings forward-thinking, eco-friendly idea.

4. Absolute World

This is a residential condominium in Toronto designed by MAD Studios.

The head of MAD Studios is outspoken about how Zaha Hadid influenced him (see Galaxy Soho above). So, naturally, the Absolute World features many circular designs and curves that seem to weave in and out of each other.

This building also creates a constant sense of fluid motion with some outspoken curves.

Out of the best buildings in the world, this one creates a sexy vision of the future that’s filled with fun, hope, and imagination.
