Mop Til You Drop: 5 Weird Ways to Make Cleaning Fun
When you were a kid, cleaning was a chore your parents forced you to do. If you were lucky, your parents gave you some allowance money as a reward for it. Obviously, as an adult, you don’t get anything for cleaning – not even a pat on the back.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a full-time student, have a full-time career, or are raising several children – cleaning in your limited free time is not something most people look forward to. Unfortunately, cleaning is one of those obligations all adults have to face.
Whether you need to clean for family visiting during the holidays, or you want to start your new year in a fresh home, check out these 5 weird ways to make cleaning fun.
1. Make a Playlist
Next time you’re out in public, take a look around. How many people have their headphones in? That’s because music makes everything better.
Most people already have a workout playlist to motivate them in the gym. Why not create the same thing for cleaning motivation? Make sure to stick to faster, upbeat songs.
2. Put on a Movie
The best thing you can do when cleaning is to zone out. This way you don’t even realize how much work you’re doing until you’re finished.
Of course, it’s not easy to watch Netflix while you’re vacuuming. Putting on a movie is best with stationary cleaning chores like washing the dishes or folding laundry.
3. Treat Yo’self
If you’re an adult, you don’t need an allowance from your parents anymore – you can treat yo’self! Before you start cleaning, decide what your reward will be. Maybe it’s a carton of chocolate ice cream, or maybe it’s a pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing.
After you finish cleaning, go out and get that special item you’ve been denying yourself. You worked hard and you deserve it!
4. Get a Workout In
Did you know you can burn anywhere from 100 to 300 calories by just doing housework? You can definitely increase these numbers by putting in a little more elbow grease, especially if you’re doing hoarding clean up.
If you have a step counter, put it on and set a goal for yourself. How many steps can you make while cleaning? Not only will you feel good about your house looking better, but you’ll also feel good about your health.
5. Make a Phone Call
Everyone has a great aunt they’ve neglected to call. Most people keep putting off, but they’d be smarter to do it while cleaning.
Being on the phone will distract you from the menial task at hand, even if its the most boring relative you have. You’ll be killing two birds with one stone, and being productive feels great!
Making Cleaning Fun
When you were a kid, your parents and teachers tried to make your responsibilities look more fun. As an adult, you have to do that for yourself.
If you absolutely hate cleaning fun, try the tips and tricks on this list. At the very least, they will make cleaning a little less detestable for you.
