Top 10 Weird Laws That Can Get You Arrested

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

A society’s ideas and values change over time, and the laws typically change with them. Sometimes, though, weird laws get brought over from the past and leave us scratching our heads.

Either that or laws are put in place that doesn’t make any sense. While many of these laws aren’t actually enforced, they are in the rulebooks nonetheless. We’ve compiled a list of the ten weirdest laws on record that can get you arrested.

Read up, because these might come in handy someday!

Weird Laws That Can Get You Arrested

Keep in mind, most police officers don’t even know these laws, so there’s not a good chance that you’ll be affected by them. That being said, these are legitimate laws.

That means that, at one point, these things were of concern to the general public. Whether or not we’re affected by them, it’s interesting to see what people were thinking about back in the day.

On a serious note, there are times when unfortunate laws do affect us. Sometimes that requires us to take legal action. For more information on handling jail and bail bonds, read more here.

1. Pickle Problems

In the state of Connecticut, a pickle is not legally a pickle unless it can bounce. If a pickle does not bounce, it isn’t a pickle.

This law likely had to do with commerce and the quality of the foods that were being bought and sold in the state. If a pickle could bounce, it was considered good enough to be sold on the market. If not, it wasn’t made to the standards of the day.

Still, it looks really weird as a law in 2018.

2. Did You Pay the Elephant Meter?

If you happen to park your elephant in the state of Florida, you need to pay the parking meter just as you would if you parked a car.

Elephants take up space too, so it makes sense that you’d need to pay for the parking spot, but how many elephants can be walking around every day? We feel like horses might be the more reasonable option.

3. This Doesn’t Sound Safe

In the state of Illinois, a minor can drink so long as they are enrolled in culinary school.

It’s understandable that a person would need to taste wine and certain liqueurs to fully master cooking, but how about shots of whiskey and beer bongs? This law could be easily abused.

That being said, if you dedicate yourself to culinary school to have the ability to drink, well, touche.

4. Serial Smoochers

If you’re a person who has the “tendency to habitually kiss other humans,” don’t grow a mustache in the state of Indiana. This law applies to Kentucky as well, meaning that it had enough reasoning behind it to get passed in two states.

Some think that the law was put in place to prevent the spread of some disease a long time ago. This is the only explanation that makes much sense at all because most men had mustaches in the early days of our country.

5. Wait… Bigfoot?

In the state of Washington, it’s illegal to harass Bigfoot, Yetis, Sasquatch, or any other subspecies of ape that has yet to be discovered. It’s actually a felony to do so.

If you mess with Bigfoot, you’ll be subjected to a fine and possible jail time, not to mention you’ll probably get destroyed by the beast itself. Who would want to harass a giant ape?

6. What Kind of Scrooge Made This?

Some loveless monster decided to deny children their night to act spooky and reap loads of free candy. In the state of Virginia, children are not allowed to go trick-or-treating on Halloween.

Apparently, the current law has adjusted to children over 12 not being allowed to go trick-or-treating. The punishment for doing so is a fine of at least 25 dollars, not to exceed 100 dollars.

Any police officer with a heart probably wouldn’t enforce this law unless these kids were causing trouble. It makes sense to have an age limit on trick-or-treating, but if a person isn’t causing trouble, why bother them?

7. Vegans Beware of Utah

In the state of Utah, it is technically illegal for a person not to drink milk. This might come as a surprise to lactose intolerant folks over in Utah, but hey, the law is the law.

We can only wonder why a state would force its residents to drink milk. Maybe they were trying to help farmers, or maybe there was a great calcium deficiency back in the old days. Needless to say, this law would be almost impossible to enforce.

8. Netflix and (Pay the) Bill

This is our only law that has been recently passed, but it is a weird one. Tennessee has made it illegal to share your Netflix password with anyone.

While this makes sense now, it might be something that we look back on in the future and say, “why the heck would that ever be a problem?” This is another one of those laws that would be difficult to enforce.

This law actually applies to all streaming sites. Any web-based media consumption service falls under this law.

9. A Bad Day for Wrestlers

All you hardcore wrestlers out there might want to shield your eyes from this next law. It’s almost too outrageous to believe.

In Oklahoma, it’s illegal to wrestle bears.

On a serious note, who is wrestling bears anyway?

10. They’ve Gone Too Far

A law in Arkansas prevents pinball machines from being allowed to give away more than 25 free games to winning players.

This law was created to stunt the rate of budding gamblers in the state, and they really went for the heart of gambling. Everyone knows that pinball players all turn into gambling attics.

Arkansas also has a law that prohibits mispronouncing the state’s name. We’ll grant you your name, Arkansas, but leave the pinball machines to the people!
