A Mouthful of Teeth

Do you know the number of teeth you have? If you’re like most adults, you probably topped out at a full set of 32 teeth. 

It was discovered, however, that one young man had far more than his share of teeth. Ashiq Gavai developed a benign tumor of the tooth that usually doctors may need to remove up to 25 teeth from.

Ashiq’s was a special case that doctors decided to send to the Guinness World Records. How many teeth did they remove? Over 232!

A Brain with a Bite  

The mouth isn’t the only place where teeth can appear in a tumor. Tumors that grow teeth generally tend to show up around the tailbone or the ovaries or testes. However, in the case of one American baby, a tooth showed up in an even stranger spot. 

At only 4 months old doctors were concerned about why his head seemed to be growing so fast. A brain scan revealed the surprising fact that this baby had a tumor, complete with teeth, growing in his brain.

Thankfully, they were able to remove it and the child is doing well. 

A Deer with Fangs

Yes, you read that right. There is an endangered species of deer found in China that has fangs! 

The deer are small, measuring only 20-28 inches in height and 43-63 inches long. Thus, their size is far from intimidating.

However, once you catch sight of their fang-like canines you might feel a little intimidated!

The Gift of Sight

Imagine being blind and being told that a medical procedure could give you sight. Would you go for it? You most likely would!

Now imagine that doctors told you they were going to implant a tooth in your eye to do it. Would you still go for it?

As crazy as it sounds, this bizarre medical procedure has given over 600 people and counting the gift of sight.

Borrowing from Nature

These days you can get nifty teeth created in a lab to replace any teeth you may have lost. You can even get a full set of implants that look, feel and seem like real teeth.

But what did they do back in the day before places like Orthodontics Associates had so many great replacement options?

Well, George Washington borrowed from nature. Over the years he sported teeth made from walrus teeth, elephant tusks, cow and even hippopotamus teeth. Too bad we can’t ask him which was his favorite set!
