Seriously Outrageous and Weird Trucks That Will Make You Scratch Your Head

So you’re in the market for a new truck. How about one that looks like a van with the top cut off? Or a car body and truck bed mashup? Or maybe a convertible is calling your name. 

Usually, the cars get all of the attention. We love looking at weird and rare cars.

But what about weird trucks? There are plenty of weird trucks that car manufacturers thought were a good idea. 

Chevrolet SSR

Let’s start this list strong with the SSR, the truck that confused and confounded trucks buyers everywhere. Who at GM thought that people wanted a convertible truck? 

It only has two seats, making it a terrible family vehicle. Then to top off this rolling crazy it has a sort of retro style. A convertible truck is a limited market to begin with, why narrow it further by giving it a style that only appeals to a certain group of people?

Lincoln Blackwood 

How about buying a truck that is completely useless as a truck? Apparently, Lincoln thought that their luxury lineup needed a truck option. 

First, it’s rear wheel drive only, making it not ideal for anywhere that requires 4 wheel drive. This makes no sense since the whole point of buying a truck is to conquer the terrain that a car can’t handle. 

Also, let’s talk about how you are essentially buying a more expensive F 150. The only difference is that you get a different interior and grille. 

Don’t expect to do anything you would with a real truck. The payload capacity is virtually nonexistent, it barely can handle for adults riding in it let alone an actual load in the bed. 

Dodge Dakota Convertible 

Did you know that GM wasn’t the only manufacturer who thought a convertible truck was a good idea? Dodge thought that making a convertible version of the Dakota is what the lineup was missing. 

You only had two years to buy one before Dodge came to their senses and discontinued production. 

Plymouth Scamp 

Not sure what this truck looks like? Think of the Chevrolet El Camino, but not nearly as cool. Why, you ask? 

While the El Camino is a crazy looking truck/car, it came with a powerful V8 and a huge rear wheel drive chassis. This gave drivers an impressive ride and performance. 

The Scamp straight up failed to compete with this. It only had a 4 cylinder engine and front wheel drive. So it just didn’t compare. 

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6×6

Mercedes made the choice to make one of their more ridiculous models even more comical. They jacked it up on portal axles and gave it a second set up rear wheels. 

Now you don’t have to go to truck driving school to experience driving a big truck with an extra axle. Though we doubt it will handle well on the city streets. 

We expect the only real market for this weird and expensive truck is cruising the sand dunes of the Middle East. Though there was one for sale in Tampa, FL for just under $100k. 

Mercedes didn’t intend to mass produce this truck and only manufactured it from 2013 to 2015. They claimed that stopping production was to preserve its exclusivity and that demand was higher than expected. 

Lamborghini LM002

How about a truck with a useless bed manufactured by one of the elite sports car manufacturers of the world? You get a 450 horsepower V 12 engine and a desert ready suspension.  

Surprisingly, the LM002 was in production for quite a long time compared to many other trucks on this list, from 1986 to 1993. Though only 328 were produced in that time. 

The weirdest part about the Lamborghini truck legacy? These vehicles were actually meant for military use. Unfortunately while putting the engine in the back is great for supercars, it is a terrible idea for military utility vehicles. 

Renault Kangoo ZE Pickup

Those in America might not be familiar with this particular model of truck. To give you an idea, Renault took a van and cut the top off and turned it into a truck. 

They even left the taillights the same so they awkwardly stick up above the “truck bed” sides at the back corners. Then if that wasn’t strange enough, the tailgate is quite tall and splits and opens in the middle to swing outward. 

To top it all off, this truck is electric. So it lacks in towing capacity.

Hummer H1 Pickup 

So how about a gas guzzling hummer turned into a truck? It wasn’t popular and very few were sold. 

But if you are looking for a two-door version of a Hummer, this is the model for you. It comes with a 6.5-liter diesel engine. 

Hennessey Velociraptor 6X6

Mercedes isn’t the only manufacturer that thought 6 wheels was a good idea. Hennessey took an F 150 and modded it to the hilt. 

The 6 wheels are the only similarity it has with the G-Wagen though. This truck is pure badass sport with Fox racing shocks on all wheels. Plus you’ve got a twin turbo V6 with 600 horsepower under the hood. 

Holden HSV Maloo 

Here is another model where the manufacturer took a car body and slapped a truck bed on the back. This one though is quite impressive when it comes to performance. 

It has a surprisingly impressive towing capacity. That’s thanks to the powerful V8 engine under the hood and the rear wheel drive.
