Most of the time, your chosen house of worship is a sacred place where you focus on gratitude and reverence. Still, churches aren’t immune from the hilarity of everyday mistakes and accidental jokes.

The Belch Heard Round the World

The people who write church bulletins and newsletters are well-meaning, but sometimes they need an extra set of eyes to edit their work. This church is one that shouldn’t have overlooked the proofreading step.

The church was hosting a lecture by a missionary from Africa named Bertha Belch. The problem is that they ended their announcement with this line: “Come hear Bertha Belch all the way from Africa.”

While that belch would have packed the pews, we’re willing to bet that isn’t what they meant to imply. It will be worth their time to recruit an editor when they announce their next seminar or church security training session.

We Can All Relate

There’s been a fantastic trend in the past few years of churches having fun with their roadside signs.

Those customizable signs used to be used for scripture passages or announcements. Some churches are using them for more memorable messages, though.

One church’s recent sign was all too relatable: “Adam & Eve: the first people to not read the Apple terms and conditions.” We can only hope making that mistake won’t turn out as badly for us as it did for them.

One church, in particular, tried to get involved with a Christian martial arts class. The problem is that they wrote “martian arts” instead of “martial arts.” If we’re being honest though, who wouldn’t want to try some oil painting with an alien?

One of the most common messages for churches is forgiveness. They preach forgiving your enemies rather than living your life in anger.

As one church’s sign pointed out, though, forgiveness can have multiple benefits. They write, “Forgive your enemies…it messes with their heads.” It might not be the easiest thing in the world, but “killing them with kindness” really gives you the last laugh.

Modern-Day Mercenaries

Churches are great places for fellowship, guidance, and… euthanization? One church tried to help their congregation with a seminar on dealing with stress. After all, stress-related health problems are major concerns.

The problem was their tag line: “Don’t let worry kill you off—let the church help.” At least, we hope they were offering to help with the worrying rather than the killing.
