Slide into the DM: Top 8 Weirdest Direct Messages on IG, FB, and More

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Social media has become one of the top ways that people find their true love (or at least their true love for the night). Of all the ways to meet, online is the number one place where Millennial couples meet each other!

That’s all fine and good, but for every success story, there must be at least 10,000 horror stories. We don’t have data to back that up, but we think that it’s easy to agree that people (mostly men, sorry guys) can get weirdly bold with online flirtation and pick up lines as they slide into the DMs.

Let’s look at 8 of the strangest, cringe-inducing, and overall best DM slides that might be better described as “crashing and burning” into the DMs.

1. The Formal Approach

Most people online speak with slang, abbreviations, memes, pictures, and what’s known as Internet speak. That’s why it was so odd when a guy named Kelvin sent this to a young woman’s Twitter DM:

“Hello, I am Kelvin the simplicity of your profile caught my attention and I wish to let you know that I am interested in corresponding with you.”

It seems like Kelvin is either a robot or a man from the 1700s penning a letter to the local stable girl. If he is from the modern world, he should know that this formal approach is likely not going to get him anywhere, even if it is quite a bit nicer than other more vulgar DMs.

2. Things Get Meta

Boy meets girl. They fall in love. That’s the classic, simple story, right?

This weirder story goes something like this:

Girl tweets about how men keep sliding into her DMS. Man sees this tweet.

Man proceeds to slide into this girl’s DMs and says, “Sliding into your DMs….. just saw your retweet about unexpected DMs and here I am.”

Not quite the classic story is it? In the end, this Inception-like approach didn’t work on the recipient, it just got confusing.

3. An Impressive Comeback

Sometimes, the funniest part of people sliding into the DMs are the sassy responses they get back. Take this one for example: a guy slid into a girl’s DMs asking if she is good at math. She says sure, only to receive a message that says, “Solve for x. x = your number.”

Her response is gold:

“Actually now that I think of it I’m not good at math sorry.”

He definitely will go to a tutor from now on instead of random people on Instagram.

4. Acknowledging the Situation

When a tree falls in the forest with no one around, does it make a sound? When a guy slides into the DMs, does he know that he’s sliding into the DMs?

This guys sure did. He sent pictures of a car crashing into a pole and then a message that said, “Sorry, I seem to have crashed into your DMs.”

He didn’t get a response, but at least he acknowledged what he was doing instead of playing it off with a corny pick-up line.

5. Conjuring Up Some Love

This might be the strangest one of all: a girl just tweeted about how she had watched the horror movie The Conjuring.

A guy saw this and thought he found his opening. So he sent this girl a picture of the horrifying face from that movie with no explanation, text, or message.

Imagine innocently going to check direct messages and finding a random man had sent you a terrifying image with no explanation. Yeah, it’s safe to say that that wasn’t a great strategy.

6. You Want Some Money?

One guy got so desperate for a response from someone on Instagram that he asked for the girl’s PayPal. He proceeded to offer to send her more and more money in exchange for a response.

Honestly? She could’ve taken the money and blocked the guy. But she took the high road and instead just ignored him completely.

7. A Different Kind of Sleigh Ride

One guy took it way too far and brought a jolly, mythical old man into the vulgar DM mix: poor old Santa Claus.

One guy randomly messaged a girl, “Would u f*** Santa for a gifts [sic]?”

Grammar mistakes aside, this takes it too far.

First of all, Santa is happily married.

Second of all, what would possess someone to ask another person that? Did he really think that was going to get him a date or even a response?

Think again, and have fun on the naughty list this year.

8. Don’t Girls Like Musicians?

It is a stereotype that girls love musicians. How do you think the Beatles and One Direction got so popular? Mostly because of teenage girls who were “in love” with the band members.

Knowing that, this guy tried out his own poetic song via DM:

“A simple hi, just wouldn’t be enough, because your [sic] a “diamond in da ruff [sic]”, divine and blowing my mind everytime [sic]. U don’t gotta [sic] stress it, but everything I’m saying is precious. So give me the time.”

Despite what looks like a very thoughtful poem/song that must’ve taken hours to write, he didn’t get a response. We guess that he will have to find a different “diamond in da ruff” to call his love.

Are These the Best DM Slides or the Worst? You Decide

Are these the best DM slides, the worst you’ve ever read, or a combination of the two? Whatever they are, they’re weird, that’s for sure.
