The state’s treasury asks that drug users purchase a special stamp every time they make a drug purchase. That money then goes to help fund communities.

We don’t know about you but if we’re buying illegal substances, there’s no way that we’re going to admit it to a state agency by buying stamps.

3. Dispensaries Pay for Their Own Raids

California is famous for its interesting approach to legislation. The city of Vallejo, California upheld that standard by passing a law that levied a tax on dispensaries within the city’s limits.

The law asked all dispensaries to pay a 10% tax to the city in exchange for the right to operate. What the law did not do was make dispensaries legal. Therefore, taxes were being collected that were then used to fund police raids to shut tax-paying dispensaries down.

Fortunately, California legalized marijuana which remedied the issue.

4. Riding While Intoxicated Will Land You in Huge Trouble

Here’s a crazy law in America example for horse lovers: If you live in Colorado and think that you’re going to enjoy puffing a little bit of reefer before riding your horse around its pasture, don’t do that.

Colorado has a law on the books that equates riding a horse while under the influence to driving a car while under the influence.

We totally get that minors shouldn’t be running around doing drugs. They should still be able to learn about them though, right?

In Louisiana, any person under the age of 18 cannot read materials that explicitly or implicitly encourages, advocates, or facilitates the use of drugs. That means that kids are going to have to wait until they’re old enough to die for their country before they can read about the health benefits of marijuana.

7. You Can Go to Jail for Following an Officer’s Orders

New York City is pretty liberal when it comes to drug laws. Unfortunately, there are some loopholes in well-meaning legislation that can land people in unintended trouble.

For example, New York has decriminalized having small amounts of marijuana but still prosecutes people that flaunt marijuana in public. So what happens when a police officer asks you to empty your pockets and you pull out your marijuana.

In the small town of Newton, PA, stores have to ask if you have your wife’s permission before selling you alcohol. You then have to produce a signed note from your wife to prove that you have her blessing.

The state of Florida has decided to crack down on drugs by treating every drug user like a drug trafficker. This lack of distinction means that people who are addicted to drugs are given mandatory 3-year sentences for having as little as a couple of Oxycontin pills in their possession.
