Driving Through America: How to Travel by Bus Long-Distance

Traveling around America is one of the great adventures a person could have.

America is big and beautiful. Few people have had the gusto to travel around and see the whole thing, but those that do are handsomely rewarded. The beauty of America lies in its geological diversity.

There are mountains, prairies, lakes, rivers, and incredible coastlines, all of which are accessible by vehicle. The problem with driving around America is just that; you have to drive. In this post, we’re going to explain why it’s better and cheaper to travel by bus. 

There are planes, trains, and automobiles that can get you anywhere you need to go but one of the more underappreciated modes of travel is the bus. Let someone else do the driving, so you can take in the incredible scenery of the USA.

How to Travel By Bus in America

Traveling by bus is cheaper than any other travel method. A luxury charter bus rental gives you the flexibility of peering out the window, daydreaming, or sleeping on long drives. There are some things that you need to remember when taking the bus, however.

Pack Light

Life is going to be difficult if you’re traveling with massive luggage. If you’re on a long trip with multiple stops, it’s a good idea to try and fit everything in a backpack or a small duffel bag.

Being able to easily carry your bags around is an obvious but important tip to consider. Take a couple of hours out of each week to go to a laundromat and bring a separate small bag to keep books and your laptop in. 

Bring Entertainment

While most of America is incredibly beautiful, there are long stretches of highway that don’t really offer much in the way of viewing. Make sure to bring something to keep you entertained on long drives.

The beauty of taking the bus is that you can read, go on your phone, or watch something on your computer. Bring along some travel literature and film to inspire your sense of wonder as you travel.

Meet People

Traveling by bus isn’t as popular as it used to be, so there might be times when you basically have the whole thing to yourself. However, every now and then you’ll find yourself on a packed bus. 

Don’t shy away from chatting with some of your fellow travelers. You’ll certainly meet some interesting folks doing the exact same thing as you and if you let yourself, you could make friends all over the country.

Set Alarms

The big difference between traveling by car and traveling by bus or train is that you can sleep while you travel. It’s a nice luxury, but you don’t want to miss your destination.

Buses often stop in multiple locations, so set your alarm for a few minutes before you’re scheduled arrival in your destination so you never end up somewhere that you didn’t intend.

Take It All In

The most important thing is that you relax and have a good time. Some of the most beautiful drives in the world can be found in America. When you’re traveling along the Pacific Coast Highway or the Allegheny Mountains, you won’t want to do anything other than gaze out the window.
