Can a Car Engine Run When it is Up Side Down?

Can a car engine still run if it’s upside down?  The answer is yes, but not for very long.  The reason is twofold.  First, the gas tank has a fuel pump in it which pumps the fuel to the engine.  It is located at the bottom of the tank for obvious reasons.  If the car is upside down then the pump is at the top so unless your gas tank is completely full it will not be able to pump any gasoline to the engine which would stall in a couple minutes.  The second reason is the way the pistons, crankshaft, and connecting rods are lubricated.  It is a splash method which means these components are submersed in oil and splash it around to lubricate all the parts. If your car was upside down the oil would be at the top and would not lubricate the crankshaft or connecting rods which would soon seize up and the engine would not run. 

All gasoline cars are made the same regarding the gas tank and oil.  Therefore on a globe earth a car at the North Pole and a car at the South Pole would be opposite each other.  One would be right side up and the other upside down.  And those at the equator would be sideways.  So the car that is upside down (either north or south pole) would stall and the ones at the equator would stall as soon as the gas tank was half full.  And those in between those points would vary depending on how much gas they had left in the tank.  But…..None of this happens does it.  Cars all over the world never have that issue to deal with.  We never even think of it.  And that’s because the earth is stationary and not a globe either.  It can’t be or else all of this would happen.  The only way all cars could operate the same is if they were all on the same plane.  And that is what happens.
