Senomyx, an American biotechnology company, developed food additives. The company claimed to have “reverse engineered” human taste and aroma receptors. In 2018, the company was acquired by Firmenich, a private Swiss company.

Firmenich announced the acquisition on November 2, 2018, after completing a tender offer to purchase all of Senomyx’s outstanding shares of common stock for $1.50 per share in cash. This was a 43% premium over Senomyx’s closing stock price on September 14, 2018, and was worth about $72 million. The acquisition made Senomyx a wholly owned subsidiary of Firmenich and integrated it into Firmenich’s North America Research & Development (R&D) organization.
