Meshelle Murphy Wow! So this case is disturbing on many levels. One, the hospital is not to blame for following the wishes of the parent. So she is suing the wrong place. Which leads me to believe that she is only doing it for money. They didn’t fire her for her race. I’m sure she wasn’t kept from working with all babies. So what is her case? The hospital would have been sued either way, the father of the baby was exercising his rights as a American. I dont find his actions right. I don’t find hers right either. Ouch! Lose lose here.

And, there are little things in every hospital called “The Patient’s Bill of Rights.” And, even though the reason may stink, and it DOES, he is within his rights to make such a request. If a patient’s right to say no is abrogated, even once, no matter the reason, then we are ALL in huge trouble. Don’t believe me? Read up on how, not all that many years ago, lobotomies were performed for clinical depression…against the will of the patients involved. So, idiot or not, the right to say no should remain sacrosanct. It’s too dangerous to us all once that right to say no is taken away.

Cheryl Jefferies I do not agree with that man, Jennifer. But, I spent too many years fighting for ALL my patients to change now. And, I know what it can mean once the right to say no is ever abrogated…even ONCE. For ANY reason. Take away one person’s right to say no and YOUR right to say no for ANY reason, even a very reasonable one, is gone. Yes, his reason was not fair or right. But, he had the right to make the request. And, the hospital had to honor that request, if at all possible. That IS a patient’s right.

Cheryl Jefferies They probably settled to avoid any more adverse publicity and/or to avoid a major court battle with even more “media” coverage. That could shut a place down flat. And, a jury may have awarded even more than what they settled for. It’s a shame, though. That means increased costs for all…they’ll have to make up the loss somehow. Even if not in directly increasing charges, their insurance coverage for things like this will go up. So, they’ll have to charge more, no matter what. That’s why certain lawsuits are so wrong…we all end up paying. The only ones to benefit from this are Brenda’s ex and his wife. No one else is helped at all. Plus, you can’t force respect…it has to be earned. The man was a jerk. But, the hospital is the one hurt…and, those who use that facility…when they have to pay more for services. Oh, forgot: the attorneys will really make out well. They always do.

MT. MORRIS TOWNSHIP (WJRT) -
(12/04/13) – Mt. Morris Township Police say it was carbon monoxide that killed a man found dead in his home last month.
A family friend previously identified him as Richard Battle Sr.
Investigators were waiting for autopsy results before confirming what killed Battle.
Police say the Genesee County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled his death accidental.
Police have previously said there was an overwhelming smell of exhaust fumes at the home, on Skander Dr., where he was found.
A generator was being used following a severe storm earlier that week.
Battle was the Minister of Music at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Flint.
