THE WORK ETHIC WE INHERITED GROWING UP HAS FALLEN PREY TO THE ‘WELFARE’ SYSTEM

The Cato Institute released an updated 2014 study (original study in 1955) showing that welfare benefits pay more than a minimum wage job in 33 states and the District of Columbia .

Even worse, welfare pays more than $15 per hour in 13 states.

According to the study, welfare benefits have increased faster than minimum wage.  It’s now more profitable to sit at home and watch TV than it is to earn an honest day’s pay.

Hawaii is the biggest offender, where welfare recipients earn $29.13 per hour, or a $60,590 yearly salary, all for doing nothing.

Here is the list of the states where the pre-tax equivalent “salary” that welfare recipients receive is higher than having a job:

1. Hawaii : $60,590
2. District of Columbia :$50,820
3. Massachusetts : $50,540
4. Connecticut : $44,370
5. New York : $43,700
6. New Jersey : $43,450
7. Rhode Island : $43,330
8. Vermont : $42,350
9. New Hampshire : $39,750
10. Maryland : $38,160
11. California : $37,160
12. Oregon : $34,300
13. Wyoming : $32,620
14. Nevada : $29,820
15. Minnesota : $29,350
16. Delaware : $29,220
17. Washington : $28,840
18. North Dakota : $28,830
19. Pennsylvania : $28,670
20. New Mexico : $27,900
21. Montana : $26,930
22. South Dakota : $26,610
23. Kansas : $26,490
24. Michigan : $26,430
25. Alaska : $26,400
26. Ohio : $26,200
27. North Carolina : $25,760
28. West Virginia : $24,900
29. Alabama : $23,310
30. Indiana : $22,900
31. Missouri : $22,800
32. Oklahoma : $22,480
33. Louisiana : $22,250
34. South Carolina : $21,91
As a point of reference the average Middle Class annual income today is $50,000, down from $54,000 at the beginning of the Great Recession.

Hawaii , DC , and Massachusetts pay more in welfare than the average working folks earn there.
Is it any wonder that they stay home rather than look for a job.
Time for a drastic change…  America is virtually bankrupt.

Are we Nuts or what? How do we un-do this type of stupidity … This is crazy!

And to make it even worse, here’s a sample of welfare at the very top…….

Salary of retired United States Presidents $180,000 FOR LIFE
Salary of House/Senate….$174,000 FOR LIFE
This is beyond stupid !!!!!!!
Salary of Speaker of the House ..$223,500 FOR LIFE!
This is really stupid.

Salary of Majority/Minority Leader $193,400 FOR LIFE!
Ditto last line.

Average Salary of a teacher … $40,065
Average Salary of Soldier DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN .. $38,000
Think about this !!!!!

Nancy Pelosi will retire as a Congress Person at $174,000 Dollars a year for LIFE.
She has retired as SPEAKER at $223,500 a year. PLUS she will receive an additional $193,400 a year as Minority Leader, the fact that she has become rich while in office notwithstanding.
That’s $803,700 Dollars a year for LIFE including FREE medical which is not available to us …. The taxpayers

She is just one of the hundreds of Senators and Congress that float in and out every year!

I think we found where the cuts should be made!

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Ezekiel 7:19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

James 5:1-3 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Colossians 3:2-6 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. On account of these the wrath of God is coming.

Not true. Not true at all. Nobody is being paid 50K a year on welfare. Site some actual facts. This is BS. I worked all my life and am now on disability from a brain tumor and I can assure you even I don’t get 50K a year. Not even close…

      • AmbrociousXP

Being on disabilities since I was 12 years old, I can tell you that I don’t make over 12k per year. Not as good as imagined….

      • Anonymous

It is true. I worked in that sector.   Recipients don’t receive 50k cash in hand but their benefits can total that…AND  more,  depending on number of children and if any child/ren receives Social Security Disability.   For a family of 3-4:    Basic cash benefits, Medicaid, child care/Head Start, monthly transportation voucher,  $4,500 in education/ “training” fees, uniforms/testing certifications every 2 year period,  car repair ($1,500)…if job search is successful & auto repair needed to keep new job,  monthly rental/Sec 8 subsidies, winter energy check, emergency furniture/furnishing & food vouchers, emergency housing relocation assistance (security/1st month rent), free school breakfast/lunch/dinner and/or weekend back packs, summer/after school recreation/enrichment programs, paid summer youth work programs, multiple holiday food “baskets”, food “Share” and pantry voucher svcs, medically necessary air conditioner vouchers,  free legal aid assistance, access to Victim Witness Advocate funds…with PD report documenting a crime (robbery, theft, break ins).  In addition…in the event of a  disaster, fire, displacement…low income/welfare families are AUTOMATICALLY eligible for many FEMA funded services.   Working tax payers must not exceed a certain income limit.

Welfare pays well in certain states if recipients know how to “navigate” the system. No reason for  ”hunger and food insecurity” issues.  Unless one lives in very isolated, rural areas (West Virginia) with limited services…there are many, many  food programs, services and freebies available.  Do not be fooled.  The “poor” have an extensive safety net depending on the state. Working folks above poverty income levels better have savings, credit  cards and friends/family.
They get zero, zip, nada…except the bill via taxes.

The above list was from 2012 NJ Welfare to Work program. Households can definitely exceed 50k NET depending on number of children, disabilities and if head of household utilizes every available benefit/service.   Review of my cases revealed some families with total paid cash/ benefits exceeding 200K for multiple years (4-5) of welfare. So in theory one family with the total package could garner 1/4 million+ in lifetime welfare benefits. I believe NJ has a 5 yr. life time benefit period.

Once a worker was told “you better keep working I need my check”.

We hear mainly about inner city Black recipients.  However, Federal statistics document the largest % of welfare beneficiaries are White.

      • Goodstix

You are on disability – not welfare.

    • Debbie

I am sick of working, can someone tell me what I need to get that $60K in Hawaii for life, because I can scrap together enough cash to get there………
Hey, Hawaii would be 90% Latinos if they knew about this……why stay in New Mexico and Texas pulling in those small welfare checks when they could just move the family to Hawaii and rake in the big checks…

    • chefjim

They can have their riches. I want NO riches in this world. I have built up my riches in Heaven where moth doesn’t eat and rust doesn’t destroy. I am STILL building riches in the Kingdom of God and I will never stop as long as I have life in this body. I am telling people that it is not too late to be saved from the coming destruction.

Give your hearts to Jesus Christ and believe in His written word, the King James Bible because in it are the words of life. If you have never read the King James Bible, I recommend that you get one and read it starting in the New Testament with the Gospel of John to learn about Salvation. Then you should read Romans by Paul the apostle.

Invite Jesus Christ into your heart by BELIEVING in Him that He is God in the flesh and the ONLY way of Salvation and that there is no other way to the Father, the Creator of all things seen and unseen. He is coming for His bride very shortly and this will set up the time of Jacob’s trouble in which BILLIONS of people will die!

Don’t be one of them because even if you survive, become born again and give your heart to the Lord, you will probably have to endure the toughest times than you ever could imagine ending by being beheaded.

Do it now, ask Him to forgive you and REPENT of your sins. It’s still not too late and I will say that until the day I am called by name from Heaven in a voice like a trumpet saying “come up hither” and I will go to be with My Lord and Savior forever and ever. Comfort one another with these words.

You did nothing when they gave themselves pay raises. Then you did nothing when they said they needed a pension plan. Then you did nothing when they said we need a different medical plan than you plebes.

This is why I don’t believe in funding the government. Wasn’t it suppose to be voluntary or at just least expenses paid (no salary)? Once they saw the looting worked through taxes they went for your throat.

THESE POLITICIANS ARE THE BIGGEST WELFARE RECIPIENT ABUSERS IN AMERICA HISTORY! WE have a run away government system and WE THE PEOPLE must demand a stop to this criminal gluttony of our tax money their salaries were to be equal to the public wages and never to make them rich and living on easy street once again we see the evidence of a socialist elite pyramid. Wake up to the truth we have lost our once FREE COUNTRY and if we don’t vote for a true CONSTITUTIONAL CANIDATE in 2017 AMERICA WILL BE GONE FOREVER!

    • freedom007

Firstly, I dont believe this listing, as many readers here,
for I know from my country Germany
similar reproaches toward receivers of social help (according to our “Hartz IV” regulations)
but normally those reproaches are wrong.

A minority of receivers of social help are reckless and grab whatever they can get, well.
but most of receivers are normal people, who cant work no more for the reasons of physical sickness or discouragement, or having to care for disabled or elderly family members they cant go to work.

Interestingly, those who love most to utter such reproaches are people of a character quite similar to that of the “grabbers” – who only are lucky to not have to get social help, because they live on their wives´or husbands´ or mommy´s or daddy´s money instead. It is a truism that “the less you work yourself the more you criticize others”.

Secondly, articles like this one are designed to fuel social tension, to divide people by reproaching each other.
U.S. society is already divided enough!
And German society soon will be as masses of refugees keep coming – with some “grabbers” among them, too…
Instead of reproaching the poor, or – the other way round – the rich, and thus wasting thought energy on gossip,
one should do what´s right at the place where he stands.
      This means today:
be grateful for having the means to live a dignified life and be ready to share, if you still are so lucky,
and be solidaric with the honest among your fellow-people and keep away from crime, if you have to live poor.

Pope Francis advises us to re-learn formerly normal customs of respect, for example saying grace before meals.
He knows very well why he does so. May many people follow this advice from the Laudato Si cyclical.
I warmly recommend to all who got the time and mental energy to do so, to read this cyclical as a whole.

dont excuse yourselves with thoughts like “I am a Protestant, or a Muslim, or an Atheist, what does the Pope have to say to ME?” Truisms remain true and this cyclical is full of them, because Mankind is forgetting them and the Pope at least is ONE among the powerful in this world who reminds people of them. This is necessary work.

    • Sun Rabbit

You seem to think that dividing society is a bad thing, and I disagree. The main dichotomy is between the people vs. the governments and religions of the world. All governments and 99% of all government officials are parasites on the people, and the same goes for all religions.
I’m not citicising the ALG 2 recipients because it is the system itself that’s at fault because it’s completely unfair. How is it that you can work your whole life in DE and be REFUSED any ALG 1 if you own a house? And how is it that under the new Hartz 4 regulations, people who get ALG 2 are allowed to own a house but ALG 1 recipients are not? How does that work.
It’s exactly the same situation as in the USA. I paid a lot more than my fair share in SUI, SDI, and taxes, yet the one and only time I applied for unemployment (the US equivalent of ALG 1) they said “no” just because I owned a corporation. They told me I needed to liquidate the corp. and then get a tax clearance certificate from the IRS. You know how long it takes to liquidate a US – NY corporation? Minimum 6 months, by which time you no longer qualify for SUI [chuckle, chuckle].
The only people making out on this are people who have NOTHING.
Every single one of my German tenants are on either Rentenversicherung or ALG 2 (but working under the table). One had last worked for 3 months but has been collecting ALG 2 for the last 15 YEARS! And if you have kids they pay you 400 E per kid, they pay your rent, and you get 600 E + money for Christmas presents.
And that whole Kirchensteuer thing has got to go. The church is the wealthiest corporation the world has ever known and they still get to keep 9% of your tax? WHY?!?! Most people pay it just so that they can have a nice wedding, and when they die be buried in a nice Catholic cemetery.
Well, I declared myself an atheist and I don’t pay no goddamn Kirchensteuer. And when I die I want to be buried in the little park in front of the Sparkasse because that’s my religion, and that’s my (former) profession.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the figures cited in the above article are PRE-TAX and yes, they take taxes out of even payments people get from the government. It’s really just a kickback scheme. And Hawaii having the largest payout on welfare, well that’s to be expected. Have any of you people ever BEEN to Hawaii? It’s the most heinously expensive place in the USA I have ever seen, partly because the retail economy is a Japanese-dominated monopoly.
In short, benefits for the poor are FOR THE POOR, and nobody who has ever collected them has ever gotten rich off them. Sure, you have eastern European Gypsies who loan each other their kids and then you have situations only recently uncovered because of a crackdown like the 18-year old Gypsy woman who had 38 kids. But none of these people are, or ever will be rich in any sense of the word. Schemes like welfare are designed to keep people down and out, and that’s why some states in the US are so eager to put people on it for 2 reasons (a) they print the money out of thin air anyway and (b) they keep people from taking jobs, of which there are less and less because of automatisation, the internet, and outsourcing.
As for dividing the population here between us and the invaders (“immigrants,” “refugees”): why do you think that’s bad? These invaders do NOT have our best interests at heart and NEITHER DO YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DEFEND YOUR OWN COUNTRY WHILE IT’S BEING INVADED! The invaders are here to parasite off us, and to destroy Europe. That is the agenda of our parasitic and murderous governments here.
The fact that Hungary just built a huge fence between itself and Serbia is NOT a good thing. No, they should be SHOOTING THEM because they are attempting to cross into Europe illegally, and ISIS has clearly stated that they will use the situation to infiltrate their fighters over here and establish a “Eurabia.” Do you want this? At 80 million, the population of DE will have increased by 1.5 % if the transvestite-in-chief Merkel gets her way. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg because (a) 90% of what I’ve seen are military-aged MEN, and (b) once they get in, they can call over all their relatives, and since they have an average of 5 kids with up to 4 wives (but we Europeans only have 1.2) each one of them will bring over another 100 Muslims, which means that in 20 years, they will outnumber us, and by then our beloved Germany, Austria, Belgium, England, etc., etc. will have become one big giant SHARIA THEME PARK and your girlfriend, mom, sister, colleague, etc. will be wearing black bags on their heads; and no more Wienerschnitzels either.
You also mention the pope. Well, which pope before him has ever condemned, or much less stopped ANY war? The fact that this current pope is a Marxist-Leninist makes him my mortal enemy because that whole ideology is against everything I stand for.
And no, I don’t go for any of this “we are all one” touchy-feely new-age Buddhist crap. The invaders are coming here simply because OUR CULTURE IS MORE SUCCESSFUL THAN THEIRS and they want to destroy it. Got it?
I know, as a German you’re used to the idea of being permanently occupied because the Americans still have huge military bases here and all over Europe. They never left. But just notice one thing: anytime any country gets to be too successful, like Libya under Kadafi, or Irak under Husein, or [fill in the blank] they have to destabilise, demoralise, and destroy that country, and the same thing is happening here in Europe.
So, what’s the rational and moral thing to do when your country is being invaded? Stand up and fight? Or let it just happen, even so far as to put a Zu Verschenken ad in the Kleinanzegen saying “come to my house for free money, food, clothes, etc.”?
My fellow Europeans, and freedom007 in particular I think you should watch this video to get a sense of the gravity of the situation we are facing. While the presence of the invaders MAY provide some financial benefit for the few, and maybe even yourselves; but I’ve always made a point of paying for everything using MONEY. But let me aks you this: what are YOU going to pay with? Your health, your security, your peace of mind, your culture, or your children?
It’s by Stefan Molyneux, who’s a Canadian libertarian but he was born here:

      • freedom007

I am quite clear about the dangers that lie in the flood of real and alleged refugees coming to Germany. But my religion is not money. I rather believe in the Golden Rule of Jesus Christ.
I think Pope Francis to be not a “MarxistLeninist” but a normal, sane SocialDemocrat. I´m fond of him.

Besides, I do not take part in the great potlatch going on for the refugees now, for I know there are so many people who give their surplus things from the cellars and their surplus clothing articles to them that I dont have to take part. I thought of donating some bucketfuls of apples from my tree but the apple trees are so full in Germany this autumn that I think they already got lots and lots of those fruit from other gardners and farmers and dont need mine.

I keep myself out of the present fuss. I live in a rural place and in an almost hermit-like way. I never wanted to live in a big city, mainly for my need of being among the creatures of God, animals and plants, but also for the possibility of social unrest or of a nuke attack. One year ago I got my old mom to move from the rim of Munich to the small town to which my place also belongs. I am glad she did so. And so is she. Munich is no longer safe.

As to the idea that they want to make Europe islamic – if they really dare try that, the WOMEN of Europe will build barricades and fight. No normal European woman wishes to live enslaved and veiled.

        • Sun Rabbit

I understand what you mean, and it’s an interesting perspective that the women will be the ones to rebel against the Isamisation of Europe, and I certainly hope you’re right.
I live in the centrum of a big city but not as big as Munich (look up my profile and I’m sure you’ll understand where I’m coming from), having seen 911 with my own eyes. I can tell you that right from my window I can see more and more of these groups of young Arabic speaking men roaming the streets late at night, to the extent that I stopped going for my usual late-night insomniac walks around town because I don’t feel safe like I used to.
And if you check the Police News section on http://www.meinestadt.de for your city you will see that there is more and more crime here that you never see on any of the TV stations.
What I mentioned above about the USA seeing any successful country as a competitor to be destabilised, demoralised, and destroyed is especially true for Germany. They tried it first with the Treaty of Versailles and that resulted in the 1922-23 hyperinflation, then they tried it again by financing Hitler, and now they’re doing it again by financing this situation. My girlfriend was at the Post Office and there was a guy there claiming to be from Libya who was showing off with a 5cm thick wad of 500 Euro notes. I mean, what is going on here?
I put up that link to the Stefan Molyneux video because like myself, he’s a Canadian who was born here, just as I’m an American who was born HERE, as were thousands of generations of my ancestors before me. The reason I bring that up is because I’m of the opinion that all people should go back to where they came from, and that applies especially to the European people living in places they don’t really belong, like America, or Australia, etc. And because I always practise what I preach, I started with MYSELF. The reason for that is simple. We don’t have enough of a birthrate to sustain our population in perpetuity because of economics. I the olden days, it was enough for a man to have just one job and he could sustain a whole family. Today, everyone has to work, and tax rates and bureaucracy have increased exponentially.
As usual, the problem here is POLITICS.
And POLITICS is the worst form of government there is.
