What is the Cintamani Stone?

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

What is the Cintamani Stone?

According to Buddhist legend, it fell from the stars and landed in Tibet, where the ancient Buddhists revered it as a spiritual jewel. However, its power was considered so great, and so potentially disastrous in the wrong hands, they hid it in the mystical, hidden city of Shambhala.

In recent years, thanks to the popular Manga series Dragon Ball and the hit Playstation game Uncharted 2 which centered the stone and Shambhala in it’s storyline, the myth of the gem has inspired esoteric theorists and modern day treasure hunters. Many theories have been debated about the location of the stone, what it could be and even if it actually exists.

WHERE DID THE CINTAMANI STONE COME FROM?

Let’s start at the beginning, the origins of the stone. Despite the many traditions and cultures associated with the stone each having thier own folklore about its purpose and who holds possession, all agree on its celestial origin, all speak of the jewel coming down from the skies.

In Buddhism the Cintamani Stone is said to be one of four relics that came in a chest that fell from the sky during the reign of king Lha Thothori Nyantsen of Tibet.

It is said to have originated from the constellation Orion, the Stone is supposedly highly magnetized, with many significant properties. One man said to have been in possession of a fragment of stone, Russian explorer and Artist, Nicholas Roerich, wrote that the stone possessed a dark luster, like a dark heart, with four unknown letters. Roerich recognized the four letters on the stone to be Sanskrit and translated them to mean,

‘Through the Stars I come. I bring the chalice covered with the shield. Within it I bring a treasure, the gift of Orion.’

WHAT IS IT?

The word “Cintāmaṇi” itself can be translated to “thought-gem” or “wishing stone.”

cintā : thinking; thought; consideration.
maṇi : magical jewel, which manifests whatever one wishes for.

A piece of Moldavite

It is believed to be a piece of a meteorite which collided with the earth’s surface many millions of years ago. Described as a ‘jewel, green in color, which fell from the stars’, Its background and description fits that of a piece of moldavite, from the class of tektites, typically black or olive green, natural glass rocks, considered by the mainstream scientific community to have been formed by the impact of meteorites on the Earth’s surface.

WHAT CAN IT DO?

Its physical properties are mostly ordinary, described as green, and trapezohedron in shape. But its greater powers lie in a higher dimension, invisible to our own senses. What looks like an ordinary rock is actually a powerful, pan-dimensional artifact.

Possession of the stone elevates its holder to a higher state of being, granting knowledge of all time and space and, consequently, the potential for world domination. And, much like the Philosopher’s Stone and the Holy Grail, its wielder may even attain immortality.

In fact, it’s theorized that the Philosopher’s Stone, the Holy Grail, and the Cintamani Stone are one and the same.

Upon its arrival to Earth, the Cintamani Stone was hidden away in the etheric plane, within the ancient city of Shambhala, and kept by the “King of the World.” However, fragments of the stone allegedly made it back into our world, and have been the focus of empires and secret societies for hundreds of years.

Many of the greatest empires of the world are said to have possessed these fragments. This implies that the stone was directly responsible for their success.

NICOLAS ROERICH

One man who appears more connected to it’s existence than anyone else is Russian explorer and Artist, Nicholas Roerich. During his travels in Asia in 1910s he heard about Eight Immortals and their abode in the mountains. He learned from a native guide about a huge vault inside the Kun Lun mountains range where treasures had been stored from the beginning of history.

Roerich’s Stone Fragment

In the 1920’s a high abbot from the Trasilumpo lamasery entrusted Roerich with a fragment of a magical stone from another world, the actual Cintāmaṇi Stone. Roerich also speculated that the stone was a form of Moldavite, a magnetic mineral said to be a spiritual accelerator. Some historians said that the stone can act as a homing beacon, leading to the man piece and the city of the Eight Immortals.

Roerich’s theory about the stone is that it is charged with Shugs, currents of psychic force. He speculated it resembled an electrical accumulator and may give back, in one way or another, the energy stored within it. For instance, it will increase the spiritual vitality of anyone who touches it, infusing him with knowledge, or enhancing psychic abilities, that allow him to glimpse Agartha, the valley of the Eight Immortals.

According to ancient texts the stone was sent from Tibet to King Solomon in Jerusalem, who split the stone and made a ring out of one piece. Centuries later Muhammad took three other fragments to Mecca. A smaller fragment was sent with Roerich to Europe to help aid the establishment of the league of nations. With the failure of the League, Roerich returned the fragment to the Trasilumpo lamasery in Tibet.

While at The Lord Byron Hotel in Paris on 6th October 1923. A package was delivered by a messenger from the Bankers Trust in Paris, the courier said to have been a member of an unnamed French secret society. Here are some images of the sealed the ornate casket the Roerich received, housing the stone wrapped in fabric which figures so often in the majority of Roerich’s artwork.

Curiously, after recieving this package, Roerich produced many paintings that focused on this stone and casket. Was this really a fragment of the legendary, all powerful energy-emanating Cintamaṇi? If so, where is it today? Who is in possession of such an object?

Supposedly the thirteenth Dalai Lama decreed that the fragments were to be kept in separate places for safe keeping. Part of the stone was kept in a monastery in Tibet, the second in the Museum of Natural history in Manhattan, and the final piece in the city of Agartha.

SPIRITUAL POWER

Healers who use minerals to aid in their work, believe that moldavites cause rapid changes in the etheric bodies of individuals, opening their chakras and initializing significant inner spiritual journeys. The Cintamani Stone is additionally said to possess some striking qualities that are necessary for healing and stabilizing the planet itself.

All mystical implications aside, even scientists agree that moldavites have a unique origin, though not all believe they may have come from an extra-terrestrial source like the Orion system.

To add to the legend, it’s claimed that the stones magnetic properties are vitally responsible for maintaining our planet’s natural rhythms. It is said to be used every night in a ritual held deep within the earth’s crust, to recalibrate the actual magnetic charge of the planet. In support of this theory, it has been suggested that this ritual has actually been visually documented as the subject of the Nicholas Roerich painting, Treasure of the Mountain. It is further described in a passage from At the Threshold of the New World, in a message to Helena Roerich from one of her spiritual teachers:

“Yes, the Stone rests on a cushion, which lies on a marble foundation and is separated from it by a disk of lithium. After establishing the rhythm, We silently saturate space. This Repository is located deep underground, and many people do not suspect that, during their sleep, the White Brotherhood descends through the galleries for the nightly vigil.”

The stone, according to Roerich, is a key, a key to all futures and everyone’s destiny. It is a point of power, a nontechnological quantum vortex that risides in the metaphysic realm as much as the physical.
