My hand still gripped my shirt at my chest from where he scared me, my breaths rushed from me, but I just watched me as he watched me.
“I went to your house, but you weren’t there,” he stated the obvious. “I called your cell and you didn’t answer either.”
“How did you get my number?” I asked, but even as I said the words I realized. “You put your number in my phone last night, didn’t you?”
He nodded, maybe even a little sheepishly, his lips twisting, and then he looked me square in my eyes. His beautiful blue eyes pleaded with me.
“It wasn’t hard to find you though with the withdrawals kicking in this morning.” His brow lowered, the skin around his blue eyes crinkling a little as he thought about something. It was so totally adorable that it pissed me off because I wanted to be angry with him.
“What?” I asked.
“What are you doing here?” He rubbed his chin, looking uncomfortable. I realized then that he was trying to hide a smile. Why… I looked up to see that I had pulled over across the street from the fire station. There was a large ‘22’ on the front and I remembered that from the shirt he was wearing in the coffee shop that day. I would never be able to forget that. “I thought you wouldn’t want anything to do with me and then you come here?”
“I didn’t realize I did,” I answered softly. I shivered.
“Please, Ava,” he said and when I looked back at him, he was looking right at me. In me, through me, to me. “I know you doubt me and I’m sorry for that. I’ll spend as long as it takes proving that I want to worthy of you one day. You can doubt me all you want, just let me help you. Please,” he practically growled and that’s how I knew he was for real. He sounded just like Daddy did when it came to Mom, her safety.

When it gets closer to time, I may give a date, but all I can say right now is that I’m working on it and hope to have it done by the end of the end year sometime.
