March 2021 Writing Prompts Free Instant Download PDF

March brings some relief from winter in the northern states, and probably even in the southern states. We lived in Texas and the cold wind blew in January and February. We welcome March with open arms. Although in Minnesota some of the worst snowstorms happen in March and April, they end sooner and the snow melts faster than in previous months. Kite flying, International Woman’s Day, International Poetry Day, St. Patrick’s Day, The Ides of March, the spring equinox, and other events happen during the month. You’ll need a poem in your pocket for poetry day (not to be confused with National Poetry Day in October), so select the poem prompt and be ready.

Did you know Proofreading Day is in March? My father was a proofreader for the Minneapolis StarTribune before this event was named. If you know a proofreader, a thank you might be in order and it could be accomplished by selecting this prompt.

Pi Day is on March 14th, which is celebrated in schools and math departments. Teachers buy and share pie in the breakroom. You didn’t know about this important mathematical event? Now you do.

Just because the image was selected for a “holiday” or special day does not mean the writing response has to be about the day. Pictures may be viewed in many different ways. We think of March as being windy and good for flying kites. Maybe this picture could be viewed as a prompt for a story about telling someone to go fly a kite.
The Spring Equinox will be on March 20, 2021. We are all looking forward to hopefully a better life in 2021 and spring may help us start rounding the corner.

Select any prompts wanted with a text prompt or without. We hope you find one to inspire you!
Thank you for reading, Carolyn
