Fidelity Expanded Commission Free ETF Offerings
Exactly one year ago, Fidelity announced that it started to offer commission free ETFs to its customers. At that time, a total of 25 ETFs were provided to Fidelity brokerage account customers free of commission charges. Apparently, Fidelity’s move, together with Charles Schweb’s commission free offers of its own ETFs earlier, added fire to the competition among big brokerage houses because shortly after Fidelity, Vanguard and TD Ameritrade also came out with similar deals for their customers. However, when you look at all these free trades offers from big brokers like Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard and TD Ameritrade, it is quite clears that Fidelity is quite weak as you can only trade 25 ETFs for free with them. That’s not even the complete set of ETFs available from iShares. TD Ameritrade, which like Fidelity, doesn’t have its own ETF products but it lets its customers trade 101 ETFs, including 47 iShares ETFs, for free.
Now, it looks like that Fidelity is playing some catchup as it just added a few more iShares ETFs eligible for commission free trades, including
- Dow Jones Select Dividend (DVY)
- Dow Jones International Select Dividend (IDV)
- MSCI ACWI ex US (ACWX)
- iBoxx High Yield Corporate Bond (HYG)
Hope they can keep expanding their free offers because investors can get a lot more from others.
